I was working as a freelance photographer at the Detroit Auto Show in January 2011. I was walking back to my hotel room for my lunch break, half frozen when I decided to seek refuge in the Mariners' Church before gathering up the courage and warmth to continue to journey on foot back to my room. That's when I found out about the Edmund Fitzgerald. As large as the ship was and as heroically as her crew perished, I'd never heard of that incident until that day. I’ve always loved ‘The Wreck of the Edmond Fitz Gerald’ (sp) and this church represents that exact song.
