Ramada By Wyndham Hotel & Suites is an ok hotel, near Universal Studios, we used Lyft/Uber which was about $5 per trip, there is no free transport to the DIsney/Universal Parks. The hotel area is abit run down on International Drive, abit further from the best shops/restaurants on International Drive (Icon area) at around a 20-30 minute walk from the hotel, which can be hard work in the Florida heat or rain storms!||We had a Club Suite in the North tower, which was good, a good size, we had a teenage son, so gave privacy with a main bedroom and a seperate bedroom area in the 'Living room/kitchenette' with a pull out sofabed. The room was abit tired and needed updating, TV's are old and small, cabinets are old, room is large, with a great view of the lake behind the hotel (I requested this before the stay), the Bathroom is a good size with Bath/Shower over.||The Club Suite gave access to the hotel roof bar/spa area, this was one of the main reasons I booked this hotel, but was disappointed in the area, it felt old and tired, damaged lounger furniture and cracked tiles etc, the pool was quite small, no swimming here, so a few other people in the roof pool and it does not leave much space. The roof bar had a very limited complimentary drinks choice 12:00 to 20:00, some pizza was usually delivered around 17:00, but not guaranteed, we only went there twice in a 14 day stay, when we were planning to use it allot more as a feature of the hotel when we booked.||Breakfast was included, selection was basic but ok, mainly bread selection for toasting and cereals, there are fresh fruit/drinks. Breakfast is early 06:30 to 09:30 and after around 08:45 the staff refuse to refill/replace food that has been used and start packing up equipment!!! so things like drinks, cereals & Pancake makers, which is not fair and a pain, allot of people were arguing with the staff on this daily! They need to refill add more choice, like cooked food, like Bacon, Sausage, Egg Station etc. ||Main pool was abit small for the amount of guests in the 2 hotel buildings, but was clean and next to the lake area, which was nice, having to walk through main reception area after a swim to the lifts for the suites was not the best and put you off using the outside pool.||Rooms are cleaned every 3 days, which means rubbish can build up, we just left boxes etc in the bins near the washer/dryers.||If you are going to Universal parks, it is a good location, we booked as we wanted the seperate bedroom suite, so was a good solution for us at a good price, I would call the hotel a good 3, abit more updating of the suites and rooftop area and it could be a good 4.||Room keys are a pain, electronic and often do not work, you need these to operate the lifts also, so can be really frustraing and yoiu have to queue up at reception to get them re-coded, the reception staff are not the most responsive or helpful !||There are better hotels on International Drive, Suite rooms were good for what we needed. I cannot comment on standard rooms as we did not use them, but I believe they have been refurbished, which needs doing for the Suites also.||As a Ramada hotel, I was expecting better quality, but our stay was good overall, I would look for a better...
Read moreFirst of all we knew this was a 3 star hotel when it was booked, so we did not expect a 5 star experience and kept our expectations on the low side. It was going to be somewhere to stay that from the pictures looked decent enough, with easy access to the attractions around I-Drive. Check in was smooth and pleasant with the ladies very nice a welcoming. Standard deposit was taken as with any US hotel and we were in our room in no time at all.
The Room('s) - Around 3 years ago when this holiday was booked (Covid delayed 3 times) we 'upgraded' to a suite. If I had known our 'Suite' would smell like a 50 years old Motel room, we would not have paid to upgrade. I'm sure it was around £200 to do this and when we were sitting in the room, we did wonder what our original room would have been like, if this was an upgrade. It must have been the carpet that caused the smell, which must be from early 2000's, if you have stayed here or a hotel that has not been refurbished for a while then you will know what I mean. Not only this but our suite was not at 'Club Level' so we had no access to the rooftop. I had read about the club level on the website but it was not clear exactly what room you had to upgrade to. Only clear once we got to the hotel and read the welcome leaflet. We decided to ask if there were any upgrades and luckily at that point the hotel was quiet and for £188 we upgraded to the club suite with rooftop access. Not only this access, but also 12pm to 8pm, you basically had a drinks package with Soda, Wine, Beer and snacks included as part of the price. The new room was what I would have expected from paying for an upgrade in the 1st place. Floor to ceiling window with a view of the lake, two queen beds, lounge with sofa and TV, with Kitchen, fridge and microwave. Much nicer and did not smell!
The location did not disappoint at all. A minute walk from the hotel entrance and you had the Trolley Bus stops on both sides to get right up and down I-Drive and within walking distance of places to eat, buy park tickets and for us pick up a hire car.
Car parking was included for free also, which would be very handy if you had a car for the time you were staying.
'Free Breakfast' - I was not expecting much for the breakfast. In my experience of the US, continental breakfast basically means a carb overload of bread and pastry with some coffee and apple or Orange juice. In that sense the breakfast actually exceeded expectation, but not by much. Boiled eggs were available, at least some protein and some fruit, mainly Apples and Oranges.
All in all it is a 3 star hotel, basic rooms bring the hotel down and the base room prices will provide you with a lucky dip of rooms that are in need of a light refurb or plain smell.
Upgrade is worth it and it turns to a 4 star in our experience. From the other Hotel options I remember having in this price range, we are glad...
Read moreWe stayed in a suite room which was spacious and suited our needs perfectly. ||Staff were really helpful and attentive when checking in and the breakfast staff were ran absolutely ragged every morning.||The pool was a perfect temperature and maintained nicely, I watched it be checked each morning. Lovely view across the lake, we saw fish and a turtle in there most days but no gators! ||My main talking point of the hotel is breakfast - it was basic but quite beige and busy. Nothing wrong but don't expect a full continental breakfast. Still a reasonable variety on offer - eggs being the main protein offering, or occasionally beans. Bread/toast, mini bagels, waffles were all available as well as some little doughnut balls - maybe hush puppies?|There was also yoghurt, granola, jam, syrup honey, peanut butter, cream cheese, three cereals and most popularly, a pancake machine, which took a battering - no pun intended.||The only real problem I encountered at this hotel was the other guests who seemed incredibly greedy and/or wasteful with the breakfast - taking plates absolutely piled with bread to their table, and often leaving more than a portion. Filling water bottles with the apple and orange juices for the day rather than a polite cup or two with breakfast, meaning the juice ran out often before the end of breakfast service. I saw a finished table with 6 slices of bread and 13 butter spread portions. |The queue was particularly long for pancakes, again due to greed and gatekeeping, the most I saw on one plate was a breathtaking 16 pancakes. |I understand people often have one member of their party go up and get popular items before they "sell out" but the volume of wastage from greed was borderline upsetting. |Granted, I occasionally took two eggs and a piece of toast for my husband but this was not wasted and the few items I did take back to the room were eaten and I would have been happy to pay a few dollars for a takeaway breakfast.||Other guests' behaviour is not the hotels fault, but I wonder if there could be a few members of waiting staff to monitor waste and or perhaps to state there will be an extra charge if there are plates taken back to rooms. Other hotels I have stayed in have offered the sandwiches and fruit for a packed lunch for the day at a small cost. I just feel it would deter the greed if people realized that there is still a cost, even if breakfast is included in the stay.||Overall a lovely stay for a two week holiday - well situated - 20 mins give or take to Disney in an Uber/Lyft. A few convenience stores near by and lots of options for eating out. This may be cheeky but a 10 min walk to the Endless Summer resort at the end of the block will see you on the free (excellent and efficient) shuttle service to Universal. ||We would love to stay again and would recommend it to anyone visiting the area, thank you for a...
