When I saw that after 200 people submitted reviews in this place still had a four. Nine average, I knew it had to be legit. I had never eaten English style, fish, and chips with vinegar and salt. I have seen the light! The cod was high-quality and the breading was perfectly crisp and had good flavor. I also got some of their homemade tartar sauce. Unequivocally, that is the best tartar sauce I’ve ever eaten. I could drink that stuff! This will be another stop I make every time I am driving through Flagstaff. I also want to mention that one of the employees, Eric, has some of the best customer service I’ve ever seen. Greets you with a smile, has great recommendations, and is very patient when you’re asking questions about the different menu items. He went above and beyond to accommodate me, having forgotten my wallet and needing to navigate Google Pay, which I had never used before. An absolute nightmare, but the dude helped me out considerably. I hope the managers see this and give that young man a raise.

Nestled within the fabric of urban life lies Evan's Fish and Chips. Venture through the winding alleys to discover this clandestine haven. Greeted by the warm embrace of genuine hospitality, you're beckoned to indulge in the quintessential British delight: the classic cod and chips. With each bite, nostalgia washes over like a tidal wave, transporting you to the bustling streets of London. The ethereal crunch of golden-brown cod, perfectly complemented by the velvety smoothness of mushy peas, evokes memories of foggy afternoons along the Thames. And the tartar sauce? A symphony of flavors, a whisper of seaside allure. In a landscape cluttered with imitations, Evan's Fish and Chips stands as a beacon of authenticity. A testament to culinary craftsmanship, it reignites the flames of passion for the humble yet exalted dish. For those seeking solace in the simplicity of tradition, look no further than Evan's—a pilgrimage worthy of any epicurean adventurer.

Be forewarned, no seating inside. We didn't know that and drove up from Rimrock to try this place and had to sit in the car. Other than that, it's decent fish and chips. The chips are fluffy on the inside. Fish is a whole filet of cod. I do think it could have been a bit more moist and had more salt in the batter, but it's a good meal. We also tried their cheese onions pastry. It's good, but I probably wouldn't get it again. Got the sausage roll and the pastry was perfect and flaky but I personally prefer not as dense a sausage. The scotch egg was good, I just don't care for the sausage flavor, but it was a perfect runny egg and was crisp on the outside. The register worker was nice and patient. The real star was the sticky toffee pudding, which was freaking amazing. Before we left we ordered two more to take home for later. Absolute show stopper. I'm coming back here just for that. Going to have cravings for it now.

To start with thanks to the guys who were there that night to help us out. It was Jan 30th, 2025, Friday night around 10 to 10.30 PM. We were on our way to Grand Canyon, most for the shops were either closed or couldn't accommodate our request understandable! We found this restaurant in google, me and my friend walkedin to this restaurant after many restaurants denied us to dine in as it was late too.

Me and my friend didn't want to eat pork, I asked him if they cross contaminate with fish and chips with same fryer, oil or batter and he said sometime they do but he assured he will use fresh fryer just for the fish and chips and fresh batch of oil and prepared fresh batter to avoid cross contamination just for us. It was amazing how they wanted to go the extra mile to help us that night. They could have just said yeah we cross contaminate and couldn't accommodate the request, and they would have saved a ton of time and effort. But, they decided to help us. We didn't go empty stomach late night thanks to them..

Small place, big heart!!

If we visit Flagstaff again we will surely visit your place.

Thanks!

Must and must try their Cod Fish and Chips, Shrimp and Chips, it was juicy and hot!! Oh yeah, the ranch dip sauce...

I lived in the UK for three years and believe me, it's been difficult to find a simple chip shop to compare. The last place I would expect to find one is in Flagstaff, but here we are. I ended up discussing the story of how it was opened here and, in a weird sense, bonded over how difficult it is to find dried marrowfat peas to buy in bulk in order to cook mushy peas. Anyway, the cod was perfect. My wife loved her first cheese and onion pie. My son was very happy with his first steak and ale pie. I even brought home a sausage roll to share with my dog, though he was more interested in sharing than I was...still, I was pretty full from the cod and chips I had. For those interested, the chips have their own fryer if you're concerned about cross-contamination (my wife has seafood allergies). Overall, it was just like hitting up a chippy back in Alconbury, England. I ordered the curry for the chips, but didn't get to try it...we were talking about the shop details and I think we both got distracted over it, but I'm not letting that affect my review. The food was amazing and I'll...

Food isn't terrible. Good variety, reasonable(ish) prices.

But the bad things:

  1. Very good chance they won't have the variety you want, as they are often sold out of things before they even open. Bad service.

  2. Shop will randomly close at odd times for no reason. Went in for lunch about fifteen minutes after they opened only to (rudely) be told they were only serving the customers currently in line then closing for "I don't know? An hour? Hour and a half?" Bad service.

  3. The oil in their fryer seems to be too hot, as the food has been especially greasy and the breading falls right off. My last lunch there the breading all fell off the fish and the grease was literally dripping off my fingers. Not a great or appetizing experience. Poor consistency.

Evan's was promising and delicious on our first few visits but issues the last two times have been too much to ignore and unfortunately my family and I won't be taking a chance on them again, especially because they'd likely be closed if I tried to go back during their posted...
