My girlfriend and I had the chance to explore Tourist Home Cafe on Saturday morning. I was drawn to this cafe based on positive reviews and the information I had come across online. Upon arrival, I was pleased to find that the cafe wasn't overly crowded, allowing us a pleasant start to our day. The staff warmly welcomed us and provided attentive service from the moment we walked in.
While we had already perused the menu and decided on our choices, we were taken aback when we discovered that ordering was conducted through a computer at the entrance. This system, though a bit surprising, was easy to navigate, thanks to its simple interface. After finalizing our order, the system prompted us to enter our names and a pager number. Our selections included the green chile pork and a breakfast burrito, both accompanied by the red and green salsa options. Additionally, we ordered a mocha and a coffee with oat milk and hazelnut syrup. The self-service coffee station was convenient, though it's worth noting that you need to ask the bar for syrups. Fortunately, the wait time was minimal given the cafe's manageable crowd that day, but it's important to consider potential wait times during busier periods. The mocha arrived promptly and lived up to expectations.
Or wait for our food took a bit longer than anticipated, around 20 minutes or so. Nevertheless, the delay wasn't a major concern for us, as we were on vacation and didn't mind taking our time. The presentation of the dishes was visually appealing.
We decided to share the dishes between us. The green chile pork was expertly cooked, without being undercooked or overcooked. However, both my girlfriend and I found it lacking in flavor, which was a bit disappointing. The accompanying potatoes were satisfying, though. The breakfast burrito, while decent in size, left us unimpressed with its taste. It had a lingering aftertaste that puzzled us until we tried the salsas. The red salsa had an overwhelming chili powder presence and didn't offer the typical flavor profile of a red salsa. This salsa was already incorporated into the burrito, which might be indicated on the menu, but I didn't catch that detail. On the other hand, the green salsa proved to be a more enjoyable choice.
To be candid, I felt a bit let down by the experience. The prices were on the higher side, and while the portions were generous, the food didn't quite live up to the hype I had heard, especially considering the rave reviews about their breakfast burrito.
All in all, our visit was satisfactory, but I believe there are other establishments in Flagstaff that offer better value for the money. Feel free to explore my profile for reviews of other restaurants I've visited and shared my...
Read moreLooks cool inside and out, but not a fan of the food, service, or layout. We walked in and got no direction on how to proceed, so we went to work on the touch screen ordering system and took a device that is supposed to help servers find our table. We sat down outside because the seating options inside are all communal and there were no spaces to comfortably have a conversation. There was a dude smoking a joint on the sidewalk nearby while leaning over the railing and chatting to another group of patrons. Before our food arrived, multiple confused servers came up with plates of food asking us if we had ordered them. When our food came after 20 minutes or so, which is reasonable, it was a huge letdown. My lukewarm caramel cappuccino hardly fit the description (I assume/hope this was a mistake) and my partner's bloody Mary was overwhelmingly salty, watery, and lacked flavor. The eggs Benedict was bland, especially the cheap and puffy English muffin thing, and the ketchup for the mid potatoes was some sort of bastardized cocktail sauce. My partner's vegan breakfast was a disgusting atrocity; the sausage patties in particular. Neither of us ate much before we decided to leave and try to salvage our attempt at a nice breakfast, so we walked off smelling like we just left a Snoop Dog concert and went elsewhere feeling ripped off. This disappointing meal was overpriced and we tipped servers well for doing nothing but bringing our food over. Spend your money...
Read moreI met my aunt and uncle here this last week when passing through. I thought the people working there were very nice and the food was delicious. I am only giving three stars and I would not visit again because of the way the ordering is set up using the QR code. For me, I come to restaurants to relax and have people take care of me so that I can enjoy the company, food, and ambiance. When restaurants choose to make their customers work to order food, it's a complete turn off. It took longer for the employee to help my family figure out how to use the app then it would have to have just taken our order. Yes, we were given you the option to go to the counter and order but you are already sitting at a table with your family and you don't want to look like "that" person who can't figure out the ordering. It's embarrassing really and I don't think that is the aim of any restaurant. Then after our food arrived, we had to go get the utensils. So our food sat there getting cold while we figured out where things were in this unfamiliar space. I suggest having either traditional service or do all counter ordering and help people get what they need to eat their food before it arrives so that they may enjoy their company without a bunch of questions, ups and downs and rigmarole. If you, as a reader of this review, are fine with QR ordering and getting your own utensils then you will enjoy this place and I...
