Thorpe Park, like many city parks in town the past twenty years, has become quite poor. The parking lot is in need of a major repave. Cinderbags are used to fill in potholes. Parks maintenance is headquartered here. Yet trash, broken glass, and empty suitcases litter the parking lot less than twenty feet from the their door for months at a time. Parks staff are commonly seen driving in trucks around the park but rarely get out to pick up broken glass, trash, or sweep the sidewalks of wood chips and cinders. The pond area is overgrown with weeds and grass covering the benches around the park for months at a time in the spring and summer. The pond project has caused damage to the landscape with little restoration and cleanup of the surrounding ecosystem. Security is an issue with homeless wookies camping and living in cars for weeks at a time in full view of park staff. It’s not a safe place after sunset with it filling up with homeless vehicles and campers. There is little barrier protection to prevent people from driving off the parking lots and doing donuts on the fields. The dog park is equally poor with little to no maintenance for weeks at a time. The accumulation of feces permeates the entire dog park area. The obstacle course is antiquated and in disrepair. Yet plenty of money was given for the dp on the eastside. But we all know that story. The parking lot on N. Thorpe Road is the main parking for users of the disc golf course with many parking on the southside entrance to the lot. Yet the only crosswalk is at the north entrance to the lot. There are no public restrooms consistently open, if ever. Relief can only be found in one port-a-potty near the dp entrance. This park used to be a jewel in beautiful Flagstaff but has fallen to disrepair by poor staff and poor...
