My dogs and I like to travel to Galena, IL every 3 or 4 weeks. It is a three hr ride so the pups are ready to get out, have a quick burst of energy and a quick drink. I like that an outhouse is provided along with a couple of cemented in picnic tables. Just the necessities for a quick picnic, come prepared. No water or bar-b- ques that I have noticed. Although you could put in a kayak or canoe on the river. We then hit the trails or walk about the neighborhood taking in the beautiful historical architecture. We like to walk to nearby Grant Park, very nice, rich with local history, the dogs appreciate Jordan's Fountain, and a cool drink for dogs in the park, Excellent 👍. In addition some playground equipment for children can be found. All with in a few blocks...

So much history here. This is an all weekend trip which still doesn't provide enough time to really take in all the area has to offer. One of the places we really enjoyed here is the old Blacksmiths Shop where you literally step back in time. The shop has been there since before electricity came to the area. The shop was the first in Galena to have electricity. The used it to put overhead lights in to help the blacksmiths. Make this one of your destinations when in town. Its located in a bright red building along...

Ample additional parking if you are visiting Galena and the downtown area is already crowded. Nice grassy picnic area right by the water. Kayakers and small boats can pull up and moor. There is a small informational kiosk with pamphlets, free Wi-fi, and even charging outlets for your electronics! Park here and use the bridges to cross over toward Main Street or walk up to Grant's Home. If you deem this review helpful, please give it a...

We went for Grant's Pilgrimage with the Boy Scouts. There was a reenactment and lots of walking. The actors around town were very knowledgeable. The park was a great place to play and plenty of places to rest. It runs with paths and access to both sides of town.

Beautiful view of the city especially during sunrise and sunset with the sun hitting the red colored buildings. It would be nice if two of the bridges were wheelchair accessible although the white bridge and main bridge on HWY 20 is accessible
