While visiting the Gatlinburg area the weekend of 12/13/24 we looked for side x side rentals hoping to explore off-road trails through the mountains. I had no luck finding a rental company that offered unguided, off-road rentals. All of the off-road rentals I found are guided trips only and each company described their guided tour as being on a private 350-acre property. Our guide kept us riding for the full 90-minutes that we paid for. We were with a group of people and had about 6 side x side rentals staying together as a group. The guide wants everyone to stay within 10-15 ft of one another so this is not the type of trip where you have the freedom to ride independently through the trails. You’ll quickly realize that the 350-acre property isn’t that big because you’ll be riding the same trails, just in different directions.
The ride includes a trip to a mountaintop and from there I enjoyed the view. I’d recommend this trip on a day when there’s no fog or low clouds to obstruct your view. It really was gorgeous.
And of course because other people will be in your group then you’ll have to tolerate their behavior. Hopefully you don’t encounter a female who wanted the guides to give her a towel so she could wipe down all the seats inside her side x side then wanted to change side x sides because the rental she was assigned had soft doors and not...
Read moreIf you are an outdoors adventurous person looking for something a bit different to do in the Smokies, then this is the experience you need to take! Super fun!!! Exhilarating views of the Smokey mountains that most will not see unless you are a hiker. This was the most fun 1.5 hours and worth every dollar!! Yes you can rent an UTV from lots of places in Gatlinburg, but most are only street legal adventures. Don't get me wrong, I am not knocking the businesses that rent the street UTV. But if you are looking for some adventures and a different view of this amazing area then this is the ride to do! We took the sunset tour and it was the best value and fun we have done in years here in the Gatlinburg. Amazing views and the serenity is worth every single dollar. Trail guides lead and follow the group and it's a blast!!!! Maybe perhaps not for an elderly person or someone with a back or other condition, however we saw kids as young as in a baby carrier age going on our tour. They will accommodate everyone who wants to go. It is a bit physical but very much fun if you love the outdoors and a new challenge Jay and Kaitlyn are super terrific guides! Get yourself some good goggles, sunglasses, hat and a neck gaiter as it's extremely dusty, unless of course you do this in the rain or a damp time of the year. The best value in the area for adventure...
Read moreSo for context-I have never driven an ATV before. I was with my two small kids. And I had major worries about driving off the side of the mountain and careening to our death.
The road to the place was closed, so I called and the gentleman working the desk not only told me a different route and assured me that they would wait for me, but called me back a little bit later to reassure me AGAIN that it was ok, I was going to make it on time, and to drive safe. He could tell I was stressed and he was super sweet.
Got there, safety briefing, we get in the machines and go. Never really went over 10 MPH which was PERFECT for me. Before we left I expressed that I was a bit nervous and another gentleman made sure I was right behind the leader and gave me a little pep talk.
The ride was a full hour and a half. We did repeat some parts but for me, it was great because the added confidence of having done it before made it more enjoyable. We did some hill climbs, down hills, creek crossings, good amount of dust. The “million dollar view” was worth the entire amount we paid. And as a solo mom trying to show my kids how to be brave, this was truly a priceless experience for me.
Definitely have eye covers and a mouth cover, it’s dusty. And there was a yummy hibachi food truck in the lot for food before or after.
5 stars, 100%...
