We did the self guided app tour. Bought the bundle for 16.99. It was well worth it. GPS enabled so it helped you know what you were looking at. Also gave you a quick history at the beginning, as well as some little tidbits throughout the ride.
For the most part it was easy to follow. A couple times we got a little turned around, but looking at the map and where we were it was easy to find our way. I’m thinking it took us about 2.5 hours.
Only downfall we found, was that when they would tell you that you could click on learn more, it would already move on to the next part. Took us way too long into it to realize we could’ve just hit the back button in the bottom left and go back then click on the learn mores. We did end up going to a couple spots just so we could hears couple of those we wanted to.
This tour was very informative and so much cheaper than going on one of the guided tours. We would've maybe got a little more info from the guided ones, but I felt this was an amazing way to do it and I’d do it this way again.
We also did the ghost tour as part of the bundle. It was also informative with a few spooky stories. I felt this was better than the guided walking tours as you get an overview of the battle as well as more locations instead of just a couple you’d walk to. There was also a couple other tours (I think they were walking ones) that we didn’t get to take advantage of.
I’d recommend this app and tour bundle to anyone. Not sure if you’d get more out of the bus tour or the one where a ranger rides with you, but this was so much cheaper and gave a lot of...
Read moreWe took the three hour personalized tour with a licensed guide — it was fantastic! Gettysburg is a must see for anyone with even the slightest interest in American history. What happened during those three days in July 1863 should never be forgotten. The sacrifices the men and women made during the Battle of Gettysburg saved the nation. Our guide’s name was Ed, he has been giving tours at Gettysburg for 41 years. Ed was wonderful! He knows so much and shared so many stories, and stories within stories. An example of Ed’s kindness and caring is how he made extra effort with a member of our four person group who is legally blind. Ed took this person’s hand (he asked first), he shaped his own hand in the form of a fishhook (like the Union forces were formed on the battlefield), he traced my friend’s hand along his hand, and stopped my friend’s finger on the spot on his hand representing the spot we were standing. It was incredible! Ed made the experience one my friend and all of us will never forget. I highly recommend the licensed guided tour to everyone. The guide drives your car around the battlefield, so you can fully immerse yourself in the experience. I’m sure all the guides are excellent, but when making your reservation I recommend you request Ed...
Read moreOH MY GOSH! We did the Gettysburg Battlefield Driving Tour on our roadtrip through the northeast last fall and this is easily one of the best experiences we have ever had. It will leave you awestruck. You can go as fast or slow as you'd like, and the narrator knows where you are and just stops/starts automatically as you get to each stopping point. We could have seriously spent all day here. It was GORGEOUS and definitely worth seeing in the fall if you can make that happen. I'm not a big history buff, but it seriously changed my life visiting this battlefield and learning more about the history of our nation. I am so proud to be an American! As you can see, the fall foliage made it that much better! IT IS WORTH GOING TO! DO NOT OVERLOOK THIS DESTINATION! PRIORITIZE IT! I kept wishing my entire family was there with me to experience it. It's...
