I literally can not describe how great of an experience it was to be here. Where I'm from in boring old Arkansas, we don't have anything near as cool as this place, the closest we get to places like this is GameStops and flee markets and I've been to a million of both and neither are really that great but THIS PLACE has everything!! Me and my family took a visit to this place because it was a part of this mall complex and when I looked at all of the places the mall had they all looked to be clothing stores and I had a feeling it was going to be a long trip because I'm not really a "clothing fanatic" or anything. We walked into here and I wasn't real sure what it was I just got myself into but what caught my eye is that I saw big Playstation, Nintendo, and XBOX logos in the back of the store and when I turned my head I saw actual Gachapon machines and I was MINDBLOWN but that was only the beginning. I've provided a picture of the Gachapons because I mean seriously its not every day you see something like this, at least not for me. I walked around the store some more and found some pretty old consoles/handhelds and as a collector myself it really brought tears to my eyes getting to enjoy being in a store this AMAZING!! Too bad we only got to stay in for like 5 minutes because my family's not really into Gaming and Anime and such like I am. But HUUUUUUGE THANK YOU to Play and Talk for making my trip to Mississippi truly awesome!!👍👍
Update: I returned to the store and got a few things. I did not get anything out of the Gachapon unfortunately but I did get a couple games. I got Metal Gear Rising:Revengeance for myself in which I cannot believe they had, its literally like the icing on the cake for me, I've always wanted to get it but just never ordered it or anything but actually finding it in a store was fricken epic. I also got Persona 5 Royal as a birthday gift for my best friend because he said he's been wanting to try Persona 5 after I got him into it. I made sure that if he tried Persona 5 he was gonna try the best one. I myself already have P5R but I wanted him to get to experience it for himself. It was also pretty darn cheap and in great condition too! I got my copy at my local walmart for $40 and my other copy I bought here cost only $16.99!! Waaaay cheaper than Walmart but I bet thats because its used. Metal Gear Rising: Reveangance was $18.99 I believe, about the same price on Amazon but still cheaper tho!! I'm a little upset that they only put the soundtrack disc in it and would kinda like to have the game with it😢. I provided a picture of the inside of MGR:R's case. The workers there were also very cool and chill. They were veeery friendly and offered to help with anything. Very welcoming indeed. Still big props to Play and Talk. Truly awesome place. Totally recommend if you're a big ol nerd like me. Sucks that theres not one near my town but would ABSOLUTELY come back if I ever come near Gulfport again or wherever else they have their stores!!
Update 2: I contacted customer support and we worked things out and they are working on getting the game disc for Metal Gear Rising: Reveangance shipped to me. That was probably the smoothest feedback I've ever gotten from customer service. Really simple and clean(KH reference😏). Again thank you staff at Play and Talk for ensuring that your customers get their moneys worth and have a great time!!
Update 3: I have received my disc and it got here rather quicker than I had expected. They made it really easy for me to get a hold of them and I am just happy that I was able to get the disc!! It does look pretty scratched but thats no problem a resurfacer cant fix😂😂. Another HUUUUUGE thank you to Play and Talk for being understandable and going out of their way to help me!!
Update 4: So I beat Metal Gear Rising: Revengeance quite some time ago and just forgot to post it here and it was FRICKEN AMAZING!! It's literally everything I thought it would be and MUUUCH MORE!!! Again this was a great introduction to the Metal Gear series for me. Truly...
Read moreLet me start by saying that the employees at Play & Talk Gulfport are absolutely top-notch. You won't find a better staff anywhere; they are friendly, knowledgeable about most things ( not so much sports cards ) and always a pleasure to interact with. I'm leaving this review for the business itself, specifically regarding the sports card trade-in policy, which I believe needs a serious reevaluation. My experience trading in cards was, to put it mildly, insulting. I am a serious card collector who spends thousands of dollars a year on this hobby. I understand the market and the value of cards. I recently brought in a collection of about 90 cards for trade. These were not random commons; they were almost exclusively rookie cards from the 2023-2025 seasons for the most valuable players in the NFL, NBA, and MLB. Every card was in pristine condition, housed in penny sleeves and top loaders. The offer I was given was incredibly low: $10 in cash, or $20 in store credit. That's a pathetic 11 cents a card for cash or 22 cents for credit. The justification was even more frustrating. I was told my cards were considered "bulk" and that some, like JJ McCarthy rookie cards, were "hard to sell" in the area. This reasoning is completely out of touch with the current card market. I had multiple rookie cards for major players like Caleb Williams, Bo Nix, Michael Penix, and Drake Maye, all of which are highly desirable. The biggest issue for me is the hypocrisy of the valuation. I am a frequent customer and have often browsed the cards behind the showcase. I know for a fact that the very cards I was trading in would be priced at $3, $5, or even over $10 or MORE each if they were for sale in the store. This huge gap between their buy price and their sell price is what truly makes this trade-in process feel like a rip-off. While the staff was great and never pressured me, the offer itself was so devaluing that I couldn't say no fast enough. I am not trying to damage the business, but I believe other collectors need to be aware of how their valuable cards might be treated during the trade-in process. As a result, I won't be trading in or buying sealed product from this store, it doesn't make economical sense for either.
Response:
I'm pretty shocked you guys are defending that 11-cent-per-card offer. It really shows what the business is all about. You low-ball people with a bunch of misleading talk, saying the cards are just cheap commons not worth much and won't sell. I know for a fact that as soon as you get your hands on them, they'll be priced way higher and won't end up in any bulk bin. I've spent the last few weeks looking through your cheap section, and none of those cards are as good as the 90 cards I have. My collection includes rookie autographs, patches, and numbered parallels, so they are far from bulk. Don't worry, I'm going to take the time to figure out the true exact value of every single card and post the results right here. If I'm wrong, I'll apologize, but I have a strong feeling I won't be.
Oh what's up with all the fake positive reviews with folks who have only 1 review and it's yours. Didn't y'all get accused of doing this...
Read moreUPDATE WITH MORE CONTEXT I purchased a $30 item from this store and, after bringing it home, found it wasn’t working. I even watched tutorial videos to ensure I was using it correctly but still couldn’t get it to function. When I bought the item on Saturday, I was told by an employee that I had 7 days to return it. I returned the next day (Sunday) to have it tested, which the staff said was necessary. After about 15-20 minutes, the staff returned the item, stating they had "fixed" it by cleaning the pins on it.
At that point, I explained that I was leaving the state early Monday morning and wouldn’t return until Saturday, meaning I wouldn’t have time to test the item myself. This was when the store's policy changed from the originally stated 7-day return policy to a 5-day policy, making it impossible for me to return the item if it didn’t work when I got back.
I politely asked for a refund, considering the situation, but was informed that a restocking fee would apply. Given the circumstances, I requested that the fee (around $3) be waived, since I would not have the opportunity to test whether the item was truly fixed. The store manager informed me that only the owner could approve waiving the fee and called the owner to discuss it.
When the owner joined the conversation via speakerphone, I started to explain the situation but was quickly cut off and spoken to in a sarcastic manner. I politely reminded the owner that they were on speakerphone in the middle of the store, and customers could hear the conversation. After a long pause, the owner instructed the staff to trespass me from the store. I was then asked to leave and was informed that the police would be called.
As a result, I am no longer legally able to return to the store, making it impossible for me to resolve the issue in person. I ended up disputing the charge with my bank, as I was left with no other options due to the trespass order.
I’ve purchased items from this business in the past without any issues. This was not my first experience with them, which makes this situation all the more disappointing. In the owner's response to my original review, key details about the situation were left out, presenting an incomplete picture. I feel it’s important for others to be aware of the full context behind the interaction.
Very poor customer service.
The store does however have a nice stock and is generally clean. A lot of the staff are genuinely nice people. If it wasn't for the owner being so rude this place...
