I would like to share my concerns about the Regal Movie Theater in Harrisonburg, VA.
We have been coming since we moved here in March of 2024, but during our visits in August and September 2024, my wife and I found the sound system to be unbearably loud, which forced us to use earplugs to endure the movie. This significantly detracted from our movie experience. When we brought up our concerns with the manager, we were directed to customer support. However, no immediate solution was offered, and we were informed that a sound technician at a higher headquarters had set the sound levels. They were not certified to adjust or turn down the sound is what I took away.
Secondly, the entire building, including the outdated lobby and uncomfortable seating, is in need of renovation. The screens themselves also fall short of today’s standards. For example, the carpet on the floor and walls are noticeably worn and outdated, with faded colors and visible stains that give the theater an overall neglected feel. Its threadbare patches and fraying edges create an impression of age and heavy use, contributing to an atmosphere in need of a refresh. The smell of the older carpet is musty and stale, carrying the scent of years of accumulated dust and foot traffic. It has a lingering odor, a mix of dampness and trapped odors from spilled drinks and snacks, which creates an unpleasant, worn-down atmosphere. The lack of freshness is immediately noticeable and adds to the sense of age.
Thirdly, I also noticed that the showtimes displayed are inaccurate, with trailers often starting 15 to 30 minutes later than the listed time. Ensuring that showtimes are accurate and that trailers begin promptly would greatly enhance the overall experience. When I addressed this to an employee, I was given a confused look and stated it was normal. It would be helpful if the theater could clearly differentiate between commercials and trailers. We don't go to a "set time" to watch commercials for 30 minutes. We go to watch the trailers and movie. For instance, if the showtime is listed as 12:20, the trailers should begin at that exact time, aligning with what most moviegoers expect.
Lastly, during our most recent visit on September 29, 2024, screen 4 had no sound at the start, and a disruptive individual, clearly under the influence, entered the theater and began shouting and talking to himself. When I approached the individual to see if he was okay, he became aggressive. I then informed an employee, and although management handled the situation as best they could, the individual refused to leave, and the police had to be called. While we were issued a refund and some rewards for the trouble, the overall experience was far from what we expected.
I hope that Regal will address these issues and make the necessary improvements. With updates to the facility and better sound management, Showtimes reflect correctly, this theater has the potential to be a great venue once again, providing an enjoyable movie experience for all its...
Read moreMy parents and I went to this theater on Thanksgiving to enjoy a family outing. Unfortunately, aside from the movie, little enjoyment was had. From a confusing and inconvenient ticketing experience to overpriced concessions (not unique to this theater) to the least comfortable chairs we've ever experienced, this negative review practically wrote itself.
Assuming you can navigate the confusing layout of the parking lot, you are greeted by self-service ticketing kiosks right inside the front door. In and of itself, this is not a problem. However, we had pre-purchased ticket vouchers that did not fit the paradigm of these kiosks, and without an employee to ask questions of, we had to wander around until we found an employee (of which there was quite the paucity) who knew what we needed to do. Turns out, we needed to go to concessions to get our tickets. Apparently, this made sense to someone, but it certainly wasn't us.
While we were getting out tickets from the concession stand, we also got a large popcorn, two small sodas, and a bottle of water for $34, and while it is ridiculous to charge $6.50 for a bottle of water (albeit a large one), this seems about on par with other theaters we've been to, so we couldn't be too upset by this (though personal preference - we were upset that this theater serves Pepsi products). What we were upset by was the fact that when we went to show our tickets to the ticket-taker, she barely glanced at our tickets (let alone our persons) to direct us to the specific theater in which our movie was screening. We took this as a sign that we could have bypassed the over-priced concessions and brought our own food and drinks in with no issues (which we recognize is highly against regulations but seemed worth noting).
On entering the theater, we quickly found our seats but were disappointed to find them cracked, torn, and permanently in an awkward reclined position. At the end of the movie, we were all in agreement that they were the least comfortable movie theater chairs we had ever experienced.
The film we saw (Wicked) was fantastic. However, the screening time was 6:50, and the film didn't begin until 7:20. I am a good sport when it comes to previews and the need for advertisements, but half an hour of ads is ridiculous and unacceptable, especially when ticket prices have soared to $16 (plus any service fees you may pay for buying ahead of time), this seems purely greedy.
Though it may be needless to say, I'll say it anyway: next time, we'll drive to Charlottesville to a better...
Read moreWorst movie experience ever. $26 for 1 ticket and 1 lg drink. Nobody at the ticket counter despite numerous employees gathered in various groups laughing and joking or using their phones. Had to wait in line at the concession stand, which was barely moving, to find out where to purchase a ticket which was there. I had to pick out my seat from a tiny screen where i couldnt read the numbers. This explained the long slow moving lines. I got my ticket whick didnt have the theater number on it, got my drink and walked to another cubby hole to get a straw, which was empty. I had to ask one of the employees standing around for a straw and pointed out they had none and had to wait on that. Then the stand where they take your ticket stub and point you in the direction of your theater was empty. The guy supposed to be there was leaning against an inside wall texting on his phone. Finally make it into the theater. The seats were outdated and uncomfortable. Once the movie started numerous people were talking on their phones or texting. No ushers walked thru to remind people to turn off their phones or at least silence them. I walked out to complain after a man next to me started yelling at another guy for talking on his phone and still nobody came into the theater to check things out. I went at a 3:30 pm show thinking it would be less expensive but was wrong. For the same price I paid, I could have seen the movie in IMAX 3D in Charlottesville. Won't make this...
