As a traveler passionate about delving into authentic cultural experiences, attending a Luau in Hawaii was a must during my recent visit in November. I embarked on a thorough search to find a Luau that resonated deeply with the rich heritage of Hawaii, and my quest led me to Luau Ka Hikina at the Sheraton Kauai Coconut Beach Resort.

This wasn't just a performance; it was a soul-stirring journey back through centuries of Hawaiian history and tradition. For me, authenticity in a Luau isn't just about entertainment; it's about becoming immersed in the culture. Luau Ka Hikina excelled in this aspect, creating an experience that transported my soul to ancient times. The cultural connection was palpable, making it more than just a mere spectacle - it was a profound homage to Hawaii's heritage.

Moreover, the location of this Luau is steeped in historical significance, adding another layer of depth to the entire experience. Discovering that Kauai’s high chiefs once called this place home, and knowing it was considered one of the most sacred areas in all of Hawaii, elevated the evening to something truly special. Learning about Kauai's last king, Kaumualii, and his ties to Coconut Beach further enriched the cultural context of the event. Additionally, the proximity of Kauai's birthing stone, a historic monument just a short drive away, added an extra dimension to the visit, encouraging guests to explore and honor Hawaii's heritage.

While the imu ceremony, an integral part of traditional Luaus, was missing from Luau Ka Hikina, it didn't detract significantly from the overall experience. The abundance of other cultural elements more than compensated for this absence, creating a memorable and enriching evening.

In conclusion, if you're seeking an authentic, culturally immersive experience that intertwines with Hawaii's captivating history, Luau Ka Hikina at the Sheraton Kauai Coconut Beach Resort is an excellent choice. It's not just a Luau; it's a reverent homage to the soul of Hawaii's past, offering guests a meaningful journey through time...

If this is your first-ever Luau, you'll probably think it is great, having been to three, I can assure you this one is well below par.

Food was average to good, compared to others. Drinks were basically served from stock off-the shelf Mai Tai and other mixes, pretty much just basic industrial bulk booze stuff designed to pour quickly and imbibe faster so you don't notice what else is wrong.

1st strike - the timing is messed up - by making you wait from 5PM to line up to 6:40PM before food is served. People who go all day fasting in preparation for a big meal, and then spend the wait time drinking free cheap booze doesn't end well.

2nd strike - they invite local vendors to sell trinkets and jewelry as part of the meal wait time...when's the last time you went to a restaurant at $200 a head and got merchandised with junk in the process?

3rd strike - The entertainment, well for lack of a better word, was lame. Inviting people out to the lawn to swing ropes with shells on the end and then having three hula dancers and a singer with one song just doesn't qualify in my book.

At my table, after we were finally served, the common question was "that's IT???" Yep, it was.

Seriously, save your money - at $400 for my wife and I the phrase "ripped off" echoed through our heads afterwards. Literally, you can go to any other Luau on the island and get a better deal. This seems to be little more than a cash cow for the Sheraton Hotel with little care towards making a quality and fair for your...

🌺 A Magical Night at Luau Ka Hikina – A True Hawaiian Treasure 🌺

From the moment we arrived at Luau Ka Hikina, we were welcomed with the warmth and aloha that only a true Hawaiian ‘ohana can offer. The atmosphere was absolutely breathtaking—gentle island breezes, lush surroundings, and a stage set for sacred storytelling.

Let’s talk about the food—ONO doesn’t even begin to describe it! Every dish was prepared with intention and love, from the kalua pork to the fresh island sides. You could taste the mana in every bite.

The service was the best we’ve ever experienced. The staff moved with grace and joy, always making sure everyone felt included, nourished, and honored. Their genuine spirit lit up the night and made everyone feel like family.

And the open bar? A perfect touch of island indulgence! Tropical cocktails flowed freely, adding just the right sparkle to the festivities.

But what made the night unforgettable was the incredible sense of OHANA. This wasn’t just a show—it was a ceremony, a celebration, and a homecoming. The performers carried ancestral stories with such pride and reverence, you could feel your heart beating in time with the pahu drums.

If you’re ever on Kaua‘i and want to experience a real, soulful, and joy-filled luau, Luau Ka Hikina is the one. Bring your appetite, bring your spirit, and prepare to be moved. 🌈✨

Please go to this Luau! We purchased tickets here because Luau Kalamaku was sold out. Leilani Rivera Low is the best and runs the show. She teaches and runs the local Hula School for all the young girls, ladies, and young men. She is beautiful and graceful, passionate, and brings light and joy to those around her and also the guests. When she sings or prays or just speaks, I literally get the chills and good energy. Leilani I hope you see this! Everything was organized well, but it wasn't just a "show" or "performance", it was a very meaningful and intimate experience. You will learn in a very enjoyable way about the cultures and dance and songs of Hawaii. The setup was beautiful, there was a good environment to meet others with some Aloha, and the food was also nice and very abundant! Also please purchase from the vendors here! The man with the flower clips for your hair had the most beautiful ones on the whole island literally. His wife makes them all.
