I took my new bike here for them to look it over and because my brakes were rubbing. I thought I got a good deal for $75. They provided it back and said everything looked fine. Less than a couple miles later, brakes were rubbing and making noise again. I took it back and they said I needed new brake pads and that it would cost $150 now. Why did they not notice that before? Plus, I then took it to someone else and they said the brakes were not aligned. Incompetence or a scam? I am not sure. See the photo I uploaded. That was the first reply from the owner. As you can see, the owner is unprofessional and doesn't care about how customers are treated. Look back at my reviews. In no way are they all one-star. This owner had no reply to the substance of what I actually wrote. Later, the owner decided to change their response. And from my experience, they do not stand by their work. The second quote I mentioned was me going back to find out why my brakes were still having issues. Maybe they have been great in the past, but avoid this place unless you want mediocre service from owners who won't take responsibilty for their mistakes. If you do go, always get a receipt from them proving you did have them service it just in case they try to avoid being held accountable for shoddy work.

I had been lookng for a bike shop to work on my cruiser for months. It belonged to an Army brother of mine who unexpectedly passed last year. He was a bike fanatic and had installed a 3-speed internal hub gear on this bike. It was now intermittently failing; it would randomly slip out of gear or suffer coaster brake failure. I read somewhere that Hermosa Cyclery had some experience with internal gear hubs (IGHs). My hopes were initially dashed when I called and the young person on the phone appeared to not even know what IGHs were, but he said to bring it in and ask for Bill. So I went there and asked to see Bill. He took a look at the bike and said, "Oh! An SRAM i-Motion 3-speed internal hub. Let me guess...you're slipping gears and losing your brakes." To my relief & delight, he knew my problem before I told him and he knew how to fix it! I went in fully expecting to have to get a whole new hub and spend hundreds of dollars. Instead, Bill fixed it for $40. Also, this is a great little shop that caters to beach cruisers, which is great! Everywhere else seems to focus on expensive road racers. The workers are really nice, too. If you are more interested in the beach cruiser side of cycling, this is where you want to go.

Been here many times to get my bike serviced. The staff is always so friendly and helpful without any expectations in return. A friend of mine put my new bike together and put the front fork on backwards šŸ˜•after claiming that he knows what he’s doing and has done this many’s times before. šŸ¤¦šŸ½ā€ā™€ļøCame to Hermosa Cyclery and they totally set me straight. Definitely the go to place for servicing your bike needs. 😃 šŸ‘šŸ½

Avoid this place for bike repairs—completely incompetent.

I’ve given this shop two chances over the last two years, and both times they’ve messed things up worse than when I came in.

First visit: Needed a tire replaced due to a small tear. The mechanic argued it wasn’t necessary, then suddenly changed his mind. Insisted I needed a new tube because reusing the old one was ā€œbad practice.ā€ Fine. I paid $75. When I got the bike back, the tire had a huge bulge. I pointed it out, and the guy shrugged and said, ā€œYeah, that happens sometimes.ā€ Seriously? Only after I pressed him did he replace it—this time keeping the original tube, which he just told me was unsafe to reuse. Also, he forgot to give me my valve adapter back until I reminded him. Oh, and he confidently told me to inflate the tire to 60 PSI when the actual rating was 80. Amateur hour.

Second visit: My chain was skipping in one gear. They said I needed a new chain. Fine. Later, they call and say, oops, the new chain didn’t fix it, so I actually need a new cassette—which they don’t have. I get charged $9 just to have my old chain put back on. Annoying, but fair mistake. Except now my chain skips in four gears instead of one.

And the worst part? They took it upon themselves to adjust my brakes—something I never asked for—because they were ā€œrubbing.ā€ Well, thanks to their ā€œfreeā€ service, my rear brake now randomly locks up while riding and completely seizes if I use it, forcing me to stop and roll backward to fix it. Now I have to go to a real bike shop and pay to undo their mess.

Bottom line: These people don’t know a thing about bike repairs. They rent bikes, but they should not be working on them. Do yourself a favor and go somewhere that actually knows what...

Really impressed with the community attitude of this place. They are in the heart of the Pier Ave area of Hermosa and I would have thought they would be very jaded to lend a helping hand without remuneration. After all, with what the last year has brought to the travel industry I could kind of understand if they wanted to be paid for EVERYTHING they did. I was really impressed with how they said, ā€œsure bring your bike overā€ when I called while on a bike ride because I was hearing a noise that I thought could be a safety issue. Then I got there and they looked at it right away. A nice young guy by the name of Jack figured out my issue in minutes and not only did he quickly and effectively fix it but he also put some much needed bike oil on the chain. Said ā€œno worries, no need to pay anything, it only took a couple minutesā€. Definitely a go to place because two guys brought their bikes in for service! As I was leaving another lady, seemed like a local, rode up and needed help too. Have to say I am REALLY happy that I have referred people there over the years to rent bikes. I think my husband and me rented bikes there about 25+ years ago and I have personally not been back. Happy to know that the people I have referred were sent to a legitimately AWESOME business and...
