Pay close attention to what you are signing on the initial check in sheet !!! Otherwise you will pay for thing you don't authorize for !!
I brought my laptop to figure out why it is slowing down. James said he will run a complimentary diagnostic screening. He said he will call in 24-48 to explain what the problem. He clearly said he is not going to do anything before he gives me the call. Apparently, he installed the Windows and called to inform me that the computer is ready to pick up. When I asked why I was not called to authorize the procedure, James said that since I already initialed and signed the sheet, then they don't have to call. James completely and surprisingly denied that he ever said he would call me to explain what the defect was. He even denied saying he was going to run a complementary diagnostic screening test. He kept saying that he has a proof that I signed the initial sheet !
Eventually, instead of charging me 79.99, he charged me 50$. I kept saying, and I say that again and again, it is not about the money ! When you tell me you are going to run a free diagnostic screening test and get me to initial on that, of course I will initial and sign because I trust what you tell me. I didn't read what the sheet says because I simply, and stupidly, trusted what you SAID.
The other guys in the office, including the manager Paul, are very respectful and professional. I have used this place in the past. One of the reason I returned back is that every single step was authorized by me before it was proceeded. In fact, that was one of the reason why I signed the sheet this time because that what exactly happen the first time, I was called for every single step !
James kept denying that he said he will run a complementary screening test and kept saying that is not true; making me feel like I was lying ! I thought that was very disrespectful.
I have taken a picture of the initial check in form. I wish this site let you post pictures. You clearly can see that he was going to run an initial diagnostic test(look next to the initial fee, it says "after diag"). I even showed that to Paul when I was checking out, and Paul went just speechless !
James said he has been doing this for ~30 years; which makes me wonder if you are that experienced, why did you say you were going to run a complementary screening test and call me to authorize the reboot if you knew you were going to just run it without my authorization. Did you just forget what you said? Or you were planning to charge me for your "free complimentary screening" regardless !?
Bottom line is : the office technicians and manager are professional. The work gets done in a reasonable time. My advice is to pay close attention to what you sign and initial on the check in sheet and make sure there is not estimated cost on it. Don't just listen to what they say. Regardless of what they SAY, they will just go by what you sign for !!.Your word, trust and satisfaction is likely not one of...
Read moreI took my laptop and printer to Computer Hospital on Katy Freeway. I talked to Dale about reinstalling my printer drivers because my scanner had ceased to work. The PC was working properly, and the printer was printing, but not scanning.
I just wanted new printer drivers installed so my scanner would resume scanning. Dale said he would find them, reinstall them and "clean up my registry". I raised my eyebrows at the registry cleanup, but left my PC there anyway.
When I picked up my PC, my whole desktop had changed. When I tried to connect to the internet through Chrome, the PC locked up. Dale insisted that there was probably some update in progress, and that I should wait. After 2 1/2 hours, I turned off my PC and waited another 30 minutes to turn it back on. I was able to get to Chrome, but all my profiles and settings were gone. The font was very small. My toolbar had reverted to an old version of my system. When I tried logging out back on to Chrome, the PC locked up again. After the third try, I hit search and the machine locked up again.
I packed it back up and returned to Dale for some insight as to what he had done. My PC was working properly when I dropped it off. I suggested that in his "registry cleanup" he had inadvertently picked up an old startup. My swap file had been changed to another drive. He insisted that he had done nothing but update my printer drivers and didn't know what a swap file was. I asked him, "What about the registry? You said yesterday you were going to clean it up!" Dale denied saying that, but my husband backed me up saying he did say that. Dale said that HE did not update the registry, but his cleanup program did. What the.... Didn't he run the program? After he denied knowing what a swap file was, I decided to pack it up and leave. I mean what software person doesn't know what a Windows swap file is? On my way out, I'll admit that I was angry and said, "I would say thanks, but...". His smug retort was, "LOOK IN...
Read moreIn this era, technical knowledge and current technological data is not only one of the most deep intricate pools of information, but is a heavy mindful burden one may obtain when trying to fully comprehend a device's internal mechanisms that operate within. This burden is widespread, and can pertain to any individual who is not willing to expand one's knowledge on any device that the user may be frequently inputting into their daily life schedule. A burden so powerful that it could change the life of someone simply from not wanting to change to new, more efficient techniques due to lack of knowledge of the system, or merely having to go a different route because knowledge of relevant resources may not be available. Majority of the time, lack of motivation to spend the time and energy to acquire the experience and knowledge needed to fully understand a mechanism is the case. Some may not want to change, but change is inevitable.
So since I fall in the line of never spending time to actually learn what is wrong with my stuff I incoherently googled my problem and then called 5 different " big corp" stores to see which cord I needed and was told to replace the "cat5 cord" that was provided for my modem to wall connect since my actual pet cat thought the green cord would taste good to her. Cat eating the Cat5 cord... felt like I could slide some wordplay in there somewhere but oh well.
One call to Computer Hospital and they are able to confirm not only did I not need the cord all other stores were telling me to buy, but I only needed a phone cable wire (not Cat5) and saved more than half the price just from giving this business a phone call. Went to 3 different stores for no reason when I could have gave them a call first. Save time, gas, and money by just calling the Computer Hospital,...
