Update: Four years ago, I left a 1-star review for ML2. However, I'm pleased to report significant improvements since then. Upon a friend's recommendation, I decided to revisit ML2 and was paired with hair stylist Rick. Rick exceeded my expectations - he adeptly replicated the hair style I showed him in a picture. Additionally, he offered valuable suggestions on hairstyles that would complement my daily hair routine. I really like my new hair style! ML2, you have won me back! :) ——————————————————————————
The hairdresser Chris was extremely rude and provided the worst service I’ve ever had. I’ve been a loyal customer of this hair salon, but I will never go back again.
I was told that because I was fat and doesn’t have a clearly defined jawline, short hair was not suitable for me ( I’m not skinny by Chinese standard - 5’11 and 155lbs, but Ive certainly never been called fat in person either)... When I was trying to describe the type of hire style I wanted by referring celebrities, he told me straight in my face that normal and ugly people shouldn’t have the same expectations for hair cut outcomes since celebrities also have prettier faces. I was really shocked and told him that I had no such expectation and was merely trying to provide a better description of the hair style I wanted.
Chris was also unprofessional and very rough on my hair the entire time. He had long nails which kept poking into my scalp, and he probably pulled a bunch of my hairs off when washing them. I let him know that his nails were hurting me as he used his hand to brush through my hairs. But he didn’t seem to care.
Since this all happened while he was already working on my hair, he ended up cutting my hair and gave me a simple trim. At the end instead of the normal $40 price tag for female hair cut, he let me know that he is one of 3 hairdressers at ML who charges for $50 per haircut. I paid the price with 20% tips because I didn’t want to be rude back to him. But at the end of the day, there are so many comparable salons nowadays in Chinatown. If this is the service customers are getting at ML, I’m sure the customers will begin looking for new alternatives...
Read moreI can't believe that I waited so long to write a review about ML2. I cannot give the studio enough praise for their outstanding service. I am blessed to have found this great hair studio and have been going there exclusively for the past 10 years. If you agree with the following statement: hair is a lady's second face, then you should absolutely give ML2 a try. The confidence boost I got from it is simply priceless!
Everyone at the studio is courteous, thoughtful, attentive to detail and customer-oriented. The owner Ming Li, is one of the best hair stylists I've ever had the pleasure to work with. He is outstanding at his craft and has a talent for finding out the specific style that suits each customer's hair texture and maintenance preference, to name a few. I will never forget the day about 7 years ago when he recommended a new hair style to me. Being someone who isn't very adventuresome in appearance, I was initially hesitant. Yet he just gently reassured me it was worth a try and I may really like it as in his view, it suits my face shape quite well. Guess what? I LOVED IT! And I've been having similar cuts every 2 months ever since, working with him to refine the style and eventually get to the unique Me style. Certainly don't take my word for it, if I may, based upon feedback from my friends or even random people I met on the street: they all love it and ask me who did my hair.
Ming Li treats all of his customers and staff with utmost respect. Along with his capable, kind family, they cultivated a close-knit community within their own studio and among their customers. You can tell that people enjoy working there and customers come back again and again as everyone feels well taken care of.

Read moreI hate haircuts because I never like how they turn out. I was very apprehensive about it, but I'm glad I got Stephen as my stylist. He sat me down and asked how I wanted my cut. I told him and showed him a picture of what I wanted it to look like. I felt very reassured that he understood what I wanted. He gave my head a very relaxing shampoo, conditioning, and towel dry and went straight to work. He is incredibly skilled. He has a very deft hand and incredible attention to detail. At no point did I feel like he was rushing. It was cool watching him flick and twirl the scissors and comb like he was born with them. He didn't use the electronic razor for my cut and only expertly used the scissors and thinning shears. This was one of the few haircuts that I felt good about walking out of the salon. I hadn't gotten a haircut in 7 months since moving to the area, and I feel very fortunate that the first stylist I've matched with the best one I've ever had. I'm sure they are all solid stylists at ML2, but I'm never going to get my hair done by anyone else but Stephen! For context I have super straight and spikey Asian hair that I let grow out to a little past neck length. I asked for a wolf cut and it looks great! He gave me tips on how to style it as well. I can't wait for it to grow longer and to have Stephen touch it up and to try other styles in the...
