*Update review:
Well Covid is over and I’ve stayed at The Wort a few more times since. The hotel remains charming and offers nice in room amenities. They even added Apple TV to their rooms! WiFi was fast one moment and deadly slow the next, it’s never consistent. The staff…challenging. On my most recent trip I asked for a king bed…was denied because they were sold out. Hopped on their website and they had plenty to sell on the night I was there. Called for a foam pillow, none available (tip: they are in a bag in the closet!). A/C has a very annoying feature in all rooms where it kicks on and 5 minutes later shuts off, takes a while to cool the room. I also understand the hotel is quite old and the shower heads/pipes weren’t built for tall people, they need to make it uniform in height…I changed rooms because the first shower head was at my mouth, the room I moved to was 4ft above my head. My prior stay, it was at my forehead…just make it the same in all rooms!
Maintenance had to come fix my bathroom tub water stopper during my recent visit as the shower head was trickling water due to it spraying all in the tub…it took 2 calls just to get him to come up.
My view from the room I was given this time was…daunting, I’m not sure if someone was trying to break out or break in.*
Very cute, old style hotel. First thing they give you is a physical key to your room- when do you remember getting one of those?? The inside of the room matches the whole motif of the town, with an added touch of upscale. Everything worked in the room, was clean and comfortable.
I knocked a star off because their restaurant staff was quite rude when myself and crew went in to order dinner. They asked us to wait in the lobby (which we were fine with) and they would bring us our food. I eventually went back to the bar 20 minutes later to see it bagged up and sitting on the bar, so I asked if I could have it and the bartender said “oh we didn’t know who’s food that was”. Listen, if you know it’s going to be a busy holiday weekend, have more staff- or at least have staff that communicates well. I also didn’t like that masks in general were not required or addressed when people just wandered the hall without them on.
All in all, the room and hotel is quaint and a nice getaway from your normal home. I’d probably hold off on visiting now since just about no one outside wore masks and everyone is tightly packed next to each other which kept me in my room most...
Read moreWe arrived at 6:15 on a Tuesday hoping for dinner, drinks, and some legendary bluegrass music only to learn that we weren't invited guests so long as my one year old nephew was with us--no one under 21 (including babies) after 6 pm. He has been known to get drunk and cause a scene, I suppose. Anyway, we ended up at a table outside, where the child was evidently allowed, but the music was less audible. In their defense, the child did throw a toy truck, breaking an empty wine glass, but that is not typical behavior, and likely wouldn't have happened if he could have heard (and danced to) the music. In any event, the food ("cowboy pops", sliders, game meatballs, fried mushrooms, cheddar soup) was fine. Typical bar fare. The backwards painkiller was the best cocktail, though heavy on the fruit juice (as it should be, if any error is to be made). The marg was too sweet, and the Manhattan ("bragghatten") left a lot to be desired. The few wines available were all enjoyable, though not a great value, but the beer selection was admirable. Our waitress was friendly, though not extremely helpful, despite her best, and seriously appreciated, efforts--we had put up a bit of a fuss about being forced away from the stage with the little one--and they were fairly busy, so no surprises. Her lack of wine knowledge meant our bottles were brought by a waiter who took on the role of sommelier, and he was both knowledgeable and friendly--the best part of an otherwise mediocre engagement. The huckleberry rhubarb crumble cake was an appropriate finale for a middling evening, though still a bit of a let down. My few trips inside suggested this might have been far more entertaining had I come with just my girlfriend (to the exclusion of my parents and nephew) for drinks and dancing, but alas I was not able to participate in the festivities, and even then, could find something more exciting than a family-friendly event without the family. Overall, I can't say I would ever consider returning, but it wasn't...
Read moreThe room was wonderful. Room amenities were wonderful! Guest services were ABSOLUTELY HORRIBLE!!!! I know regular check in is about 4pm. We stopped in at 230pm to see if we could get in. They promised to call when the room was ready. We showed back up at 530pm without a phone call and, oh wow, the room was ready.... About 745pm, my wife and I called for some silverware. It never came. We filled out a "breakfast in bed" card that needed to be hung by 11pm. At 6am , I took it down to the front desk, for the desk clerk to not apologize at all and used the excuse that they pick them up at 0700.... I told him about the silverware, he said "that comes from the kitchen. Not our fault". ... SIR! the kitchen is the Wort as well so it's all of your faults!!! Still no apology! At that point, we gave up trying to ask the front desk for anything and our echo recitations of our $350/night room went down the tubes.... At least my wife and I enjoyed each other and the area for our 20th anniversary. The Wort Hotel has become our historical, never go again, hotel/restaurant/bar and grill. Absolutely ridiculous! .... One more thing, we filled out the breakfast in bed card that was hiding in the night stand. (Felt appropriate for our 20th anniversary) ... The food came to our room missing items, I called the Wort kitchen and, had to argue with the guy who brought us our food.... I had it checked on the card, missing 2 items, I had to go meet him to prove to him that it was on the card and when he brought our 1 missing item, he did not bring our 2nd missing item.... By the time I got to eat with my wife, all my food was cold. The biscuits were cold and fairly old. The sausage links looked good...
