I took my 9 year old here to get a sketch book.
We ended up spending $200 and several hours looking at things and her touching the paper in all the sketch books because she wanted it for some particular but wasn't having an easy time describing to me or her dad what she needed for this project she has in mind.
We got help from a very friendly employee whose name I didn't catch (sorry brown ponytail lady) and Josh M set me up with a Michael's Credit Card while simultaneously engaging with my child as she told him what each thing he rang up was going to be used for. He also said, "boy howdy" at one point when asking for another cashier to come run another register which was just so flipping wholesome.
I always enjoy a trip to Micheal's. It's less fabric focused than Jo-Ann's but doesn't make their political opinions so obvious that I feel uncomfortable (I'm looking at you, Hobby Lobby).
So, even though there's a Jo-Ann's close to my house (and I'm a trained seamstress and costume designer) and there's a Hobby Lobby much closer to my house, my queer family and I will continue to drive all the way to Micheal's for non-sewing craft...
Read moreUpdated from 4 stars because the mean lady that used to work there is no longer there. If you are going to michaels, you know what you need at michaels. And they have a great collection of arts and crafts. I need weird things for bonding plastic and sculpting fake wood, and at most places I cant find anything to help with that. Home depot has something I could use for 40 bucks for a small tub. But Michaels not only has what I need, they have options. Ugh, so now I just have to choose. This is a nightmare! Maybe it's worse! My indecision is killing me! Of course I kid.
Also, aside from their cheaply made, even cheaper feeling, and bizarrely overpriced furniture sold online (I mean, 400 for a desk that feels like it's made out of balsa wood. It's bad), again Aside from all that, the prices are competitive, and if you didnt know, they take coupons from their competitors. And that is pretty much everyone. Home depot and the like, Target, Walmart, JoAnn's, other places too I'm sure. I'm gonna go there right now for...
Read morePretty good store, but there are never enough cashiers, and they never call anyone else up front to help until the one open lane has a line going halfway to the back of the store. Plenty of employees walking around, but never up front where they're needed. And all of the reviews talking about a hateful or rude employee must be referring to J_____. (if you've had to deal with her, you'll know who I mean.) This lady has no business being in customer service. My heart sinks a little every time I have to get her assistance with something or check out in her lane, because she's just so unpleasant. I realize jobs can be hard to find nowadays, but surely she could find something that doesn't require her to deal with customers, since she clearly hates it and doesn't bother to hide the fact. I am glad they've started carrying sewing machines and fabric and other supplies, but wish they'd offer...
