Pros: Good variety, good quality of seeds and spices, location
Cons: Parking, Prices on some items, lack of information on spices and coffee, floors need upgraded in some areas, customer service
I have been to this location on several times as well as my father. He in an expert Gardner and I am a certified professional Landscape Designer with 10+ years in the industry. I love the bird plant seeds that this location has to offer. However the conversation with the staff is strained and come with a lot of effort as they seem to not really care to discuss the particulars of certain questions regarding their selections.
I am not sure if this is a post-covid issue but it is not acceptable and needs to be addressed. I asked a woman who I was ordering seeds from various questions on some wild flower shade mix. I asked her what the shade time was for the and she acted abrasive and bothersome at the question. I asked several other questions and received the same response which led me to finish my transaction and leave the store. The next time I think about visiting this store I will consider whether I want to experience poor customer service again.
Parking can be a bit of a bother on the weekends but is usually not an issue if you know the location and are familiar with its surroundings.
The price of items in this location are a bit high and may be mass produced. I mention this because I have found several of the items located here at nearly 25% cheaper at other locations. This may be due to the locations overhead. For the most part I would say that the price can seem high for some things and fairly reasonable for others. Do your market research if money is a priority.
One last thing that I want to bring up is the condition of the floors and the how the transitions from one room to the next can be precarious so use caution if you have...
Read moreDropped in for the first time today and was really happy with the experience. I liked the seed selection (it's a little sparse-looking right now but I'm sure they get lots more by early Spring). I ended up picking up chamomile and spearmint to try growing when it gets a little warmer.
There are lots of spices and seasoning mixes, and the tea/coffee corner was pretty cool (and smelled lovely to boot). The tea prices look very reasonable, and they sell in bulk, which is appealing.
There's lots of garden/lawn supplies and some hardware goods, although the latter is on the pricier side. I found a decent selection of plant water saucers, which was great because I've had a hard time finding them anywhere else this time of year.
The staff are very professional and knowledgeable and friendly, which left me impressed. They even offered me a small pamphlet about starting seeds to help me on my way, which was a pleasant surprise. I can't wait to come back when planting season gets closer to see what other things they...
Read moreIn an area of Kansas City that isn't always taking coronavirus precautions seriously, it's nice to see that some stores are doing their due diligence. The number of patrons at one time is strictly monitored, and I have never seen an employee's face since this whole thing started.
Spices and seasonings of all types are available in bulk bags, including some pretty good spice mixes (try the Apple Pie Spice mix, or the Cajun BBQ). aside from the edible offerings, planters also offers a variety of birdseed, and outdoor gardening equipment and feeders for sale year-round.
Plus, and there's no real way to quantify this... the store just smells good. Even if you're not planning on buying anything, oftentimes just a walk inside is enough to convince you to buy something, just so you can take some of that good smell home with you. Highly recommended for any new visitors to the...
