This isn’t just a bar. It’s a storybook wrapped in mahogany, lit by the soft glow of pub lanterns, and seasoned with enough Irish spirit to make Saint Patrick do a double take. If you’re craving a place where your pint has purpose and your afternoon slows to a poetic crawl, this is your holy grail.
You don’t walk into The Auld Dubliner, you step across the Atlantic. Every inch of the place hums with worn-in charm and pub-soaked history. The bar itself is a carved-out beauty, heavy with wood and character, lined with bottles and stories. I half expected to see Brendan Gleeson nursing a whiskey in the corner while reciting Yeats.
My wife and I came in for a late afternoon cooldown after soaking up the sun and the sights. She ordered a chilled glass of wine with the grace and style of a seasoned Euro traveler. I went full Irish and asked for a pint of Smithwick’s Pale Ale, cold and proper, nestled on a coaster like a crown on a velvet pillow.
The bartender? A legend. Friendly, quick, and clearly fluent in pub-speak. He didn’t just pour drinks, he read the room like a novel and played host like it was his own living room.
The Auld Dubliner isn’t just a stop. It’s a ritual. If I lived nearby, this would be my sanctuary. My after-work pub. My pre-game pint. My Saturday lunch turned Sunday session.
The next time I need a reset, a reminder of good drink, good atmosphere, and good company, I’ll be back. And my wife will too, swirling her wine, probably laughing at how poetic I get after a...
Read moreWhile attending a conference, I needed to get a quick lunch nearby. Across from the Convention Center, I found this Irish bar and restaurant.
The inside was full of interesting items on the wall, all about Ireland, Guinness, and old memorabilia. Good amount of seating, with a nice space in between. Within a few seconds, a very nice and welcoming bartender greeted me and told me to sit wherever I’d like, since I was alone, I sat at the bar.
I wanted fish and chips, but I also wanted curry chips… so, I asked the bartender if I could get fish and chips with curry sauce, and he said “Sure!” He even asked if I wanted on the top or on the side. How nice! I asked the curry sauce to be on the side.
The Fish and Chips came piping hot and it was HUGE!!!! The batter was super crispy and crunchy, not greasy at all. The fish was amazing, juicy and flakey, so delicious! One of the BEST fish and chips I have ever had!
The side of Irish style Curry Sauce tasted very different from what I imagined it would be… It was sweet with a little kick that came after. Kind of tasted like mushy peas a bit for some reason… It was an acquired taste. I am glad I asked it on the side and not poured over it.
It was an excellent lunch, I enjoyed my fish and chips tremendously! I had the left over for my dinner, and it was still super tasty! If I ever visit Long Beach, I would definitely go back to this restaurant again and get their fish and chips, minus the...

The food is wonderful, from the breakfast items to the fish & chips to the burgers & sandwiches. I can't recall a food item I've ordered that I was disappointed with. They have a great beer selection as well. You're taking care of as far as nourishment.
The service is great too. Even when it's busy, you're able to get attention in a timely manner. Employees are sincerely friendly.
The atmosphere is A+. The pub is designed and decorated spectacularly. Some of the furnishings are worn, but frankly, it's just a sign of the pub's popularity. You really do get close to the feel of an Irish pub, as close as you can get in downtown Long Beach anyway. Better yet, it's an Arsenal bar, with a beautiful Arsenal flag adorning the wall.
It's location near The Pike (technically part of it?) and across from the convention center is also fantastic. It's a great spot. Easy to access via public transportation, otherwise nearby parking is not terrible even if unfortunately not free.
It's truly a great place and a longtime staple of Long Beach. Worth your time for a pint and a bite.
I frequented this place regularly when I lived in Long Beach years ago. Have been back a couple of times in the last year or so, and the quality of the food and the level of service have remained consistent. In a time where so many establishments fail to survive, there's a reason (or many) the Dubliner continues to...
