Marysville Twin Lakes — Attraction in Marysville

A lot of locals dont know this but these lakes are fake, man made, a cesspool of runoff, pollution & rainwater filling up two giant pits dug deep into ground to build a mountain on a floodplain to build Interstate 5 & two bridges 3-lanes each crossing over railroad tracks allready built above the floodplain and that took a lot of dirt and was expensive. To lower cost dirt was dug up right there where the two lakes are today. Ive heard 400' deep was one lake. The mound they built was gradual leading up to both bridge's & descending as well. Thats a lot of Tonka trucks the largest trucks ive ever seen then and since. Tires as tall as a house! Incredible. Built to build a freeway. Nothing had ever been attempted on such a scale since Rome built their road network. Dug in the late 60s, the pits quickly filled with water, locals liked them for the sand left behind and turned them into impromptu beaches. Kids started swimming there. The water quickly turned into a cesspool after kids swam in them go figure? They were closed but the public demanded a park. It started as a state effort to divert a stream to one lake cut a channel connecting the two then force the deepest lake to exit out into that same stream. It was hoped this would clean the lake, but it took time. It does work. Today the trees are numerous & evergreens approach at least 60 years old. A rare sight & this park is a wonderland of fakeness that demonstrates how man can do to correct damage done to environment. Trout are planted on a regular basis and no other fish has survived worth mentioning i could be wrong. I dont fish, but any time of year youll see someone there fishing. Trails encircle the lakes. A flat ez walk. Large beaches. And after reading this you will see, two box shaped lakes with a bottomless pit connected by a shallow stream? God didnt build this, Man did. No... Interstate...

I love walking around the lakes. Start in the middle facing west, walk up the middle of the lakes until you get to the waterway, about 3/4 of the way along the lakes. Double back through the trees to the east. When you get back to the bathrooms on your left, and the entrance to the south lake parking lot hang a right headed due south. Walk to the end of the lake and swimming area and turn right headed due west. Walk to the end of the lake to the back tree line and turn right headed due north. Walk all the way to the far corner of the north lake and turn right headed due east. Walk past the apartments on your left and the business building just passed on the left to the end of the lake and turn right headed due south walk to the end of the north lake and you have completed your walk around both lakes. This park has a beautiful walking path that goes along the outside of the two lakes. There's a TON of private fishing areas if you want to post up with some friends for an afternoon of fishing. The lake is stocked with fish so your chances are good that you'll get a bite or two. There are picnic areas if you just want to sit with your family and have some lunch. There are bathrooms but they are currently closed during the covid season. But the park did place portapoties for people to use.

The park is near the freeway so you can hear the cars while sitting at the wading area but it didn't break the mood during the sunset. Overall it's an amazing park. If you visit just before sunset is easy to...
