Known to locals as "Kam 3", Kamaole Beach Park III is the largest of the three beach parks that are lined up in a row along South Kihei Road. The beach is parallel to condos so don't expect to find restaurants or convenience stores within walking distance. Numerous parties, get-togethers and family and class reunions have been held here due to the spacious footprint.
PARKING: Free parking in the lot is limited as is street parking. Because of the park's size and location of the parking lot, expect a good walk to the beach and other areas.
THE PARK: The expansive grassy area is set high above the beach so views of the ocean, West Maui Mountains, Kaho'olawe, Molokini and Lana'i are excellent. Grills, picnic tables, restrooms and showers are available. There are a few shady spots under big trees but the majority of the area is unprotected, rolling hills. A sand volleyball court was/is available on the north end.
Most of the time the ocean is a little rough with big waves that break close to shore, so snorkeling is not recommended. The beach is yellow sand with a few rocky lava jetty points so photographs at sunset can be killer and fishing is probably good. Lifeguards are on duty.
SHARKS: Yes, they live in the ocean after all and you're entering their home. But, there have been an increase in sightings and attacks in the Kihei area so be forewarned.
OVERALL: Great for picnicking, adequate...
Read moreTurtles!!! So I was determined to be able to see some honu before we left beautiful Maui. We had snorkeled at Keawakapu Beach, Molikini Crater, the cove near the Kihei Boat Landing and had not spotted any. On our last day, we went right across the street from our condo to Kamaole Beach Park III and we hit the jackpot! First off, we went late in the afternoon during a virtual windstorm (like sand pelting our bodies painfully), but decided to stick it out. Luckily, because of this, parking was plentiful and the beach was almost empty. On the northern end, near a rocky cove, some people spotted turtles! We snorkeled in from the beach and were able to see at least 7! What a treasure! Of course we didn't touch any or get too near them, but it was a site to behold and I'm so glad we were patient! Fortunately, the wind died down and the sun came out and we were able to spend our last day on Maui "swimming" with honu! There definitely was an abundance of these beauties near the rocks and the cove on the northern end, so if you're on the lookout, just be patient and you...
Read moreKamaole Beach Park is such a fantastic spot! Located right in Kihei, it’s super convenient and offers a little bit of everything. The beach itself is gorgeous, with soft golden sand and crystal-clear waters that are perfect for swimming, snorkeling, or just relaxing. The gentle waves make it a family-friendly choice, and I noticed plenty of people enjoying the water without any hassle.
What I love most is the relaxed vibe here. There are three sections – Kamaole I, II, and III – each with its own unique charm, so it’s easy to find a place that fits your mood. The parks have great amenities, like picnic tables, showers, and even grassy areas with shade, which is perfect for a mid-day break from the sun. We brought a picnic and had the best time just soaking up the views.
It’s also a great spot to catch the sunset – the colors over the ocean are stunning! Whether you’re here to relax, swim, or explore, Kamaole Beach Park has something for everyone, and it’s become one of my favorite...
