It's very rare that I hop on here to leave negative reviews but this one is definitely warranted.
Stopped here with my family after having dinner upstairs at Coconuts. There was a line out the door with (1) person working who also happens to be the owner...(okay, small disclosure here, it was 8:15 when we arrived, and their closing time is 8:30. I'm sure the owner didn't expect a line to be out the door, especially when it's only him. I get that can be a bit stressful and frustrating, HOWEVER, the way he treated me tonight was so rude and unnecessary that I felt compelled to let everyone know before they decide to patronize this man and his business.
When it was my turn to order, I simply asked for a cup of chocolate ice cream. He informed me they were out, so I then asked my stepson what other flavor he'd like, he pointed to coconut. Me knowing he wouldn't like it and mistook that for Vanilla, I said, "Okay can I just get a small cup of Vanilla instead". The owners response???????????????
"Here in Hawaii, when we say we are out of something that MEANS WE ARE OUT! Do you see the word out on all of these tubs???????" And then proceeded to go down the line of every ice cream he was out of. I was in such shock, I didn't even know how to respond. I had no clue they were out of Vanilla, which is fine as long as he respectfully told me that. I don't even care about the ice cream. I care about the blatant disrespect coming straight out of the owners mouth. I'm sorry sir but isn't it business 101 (ESPECIALLY in the hospitality industry) to provide great customer service to ensure your customers are happy and feel comfortable in your establishment???? He was so RUDE to me, I can't get over it!!! I usually have a lot to say and will absolutely defend myself in situations like this but didn't want to make a scene in front of my family or the line of people behind me. We will never ever choose this place for...
Read moreUnhappiest ice cream shop in Maui. How can someone be so angry or unhappy serving ice cream. The owner here has no idea that he doesn't provide a good atmosphere for customers. This is the only ice cream place that I know of that does not provide samples. Odd business model condisering it's in the heart of a tourist area where there is an abundance of kids. To remind people of this, there are written notes in capital letters "NO SAMPLES" as if to remind everyone that at one time they provided it but somehow, someone abused this freebie and ended up sampling the entire store. Price is high but it is what it is in Maui. I just can't get over not being happy when you decided to sell ice cream and serve people. Oh also theres also a wall that says "$100 wall" and pics of people holding up $100 bill. I'm thinking this has to be a gimmick. Maybe they ate a super bowl ice cream valued at $100. Or something like the spiciest wing or the Superbowl of pho. Something that was worthy of a challenge. I asked the owner, what is this wall? "Oh these are customers that tipped $100". I was like ..wow...thinking $100 tip for what? Kind of odd using this as a gimmick and only highlighting customers that had more monetary means than others. I'm pretty sure most patrons tip the 15-20% on top of paying for a $6 single scoop. So to be displayed on the wall of cool, you just need to pay $100. I've never seen such an unhappy person serving ice cream and reading the reviews, it's been like this for some time so it's not just me. Also do not try the frozen yogurt, it is not good. Gritty and unedible. My daughter tried it and said she couldn't finish it. Save yourself the money and just go to Safeway and buy some...
Read moreWent there twice because I gave them the chance that the first time was just an off day. Flavor selection is great, plus they offer shakes and coffee drinks. Different ice cream, different day, different employee, same bad service. First, I don't like when servers offer items that are an additional charge without saying so (personal thing of mine). I know the prices are behind them on the wall but when I'm asked what type of cone I would like, not being made aware that getting a cone is $1-$1.50 extra just bugs me. Second, one of our scoops was freezer burnt. Third the prices are extremely high, even for HI. Each scoop is $4.25, cones are extra, iced mochas are $7, etc. Third, ice cream should be FUN! In both visits the person working seemed to be bothered that we were even there. One time it was like we were a bother because we interrupted his cleaning (even though they didn't close for another 45 minutes). The other visit she just seemed to be bothered that my kids wanted to try flavors before ordering one. Overall nothing horrible, its just when spending $5 for a scoop of ice cream I expect them to be happy that I am giving them...
