This tennis park has new management - and while I liked the old management and they were not "bad", I will say that this new management is FANTASTIC.
First, the front desk people, Emily, Veronica and Sandy are wonderful. They ALWAYS answer the phone and it's a rare occasion to get voice mail during their business hours. There are professional, accurate, and efficient - never a problem, and now they even send emails to confirm court reservations so that it runs seamlessly. Andreas who helps tidy up the courts and closes them down at night is also a fabulous guy - very patient and always let's you play out your game.
The teaching pros are also wonderful - I couldn't say one bad word about any of them - and that says a lot because there could be a lot of egos here. There's none. I wish I could highlight a few but I'd be leaving so many out - because they are ALL solid, great, customer service oriented professionals. The prices are very reasonable - it's something like $60 for an hour lesson, and they'll even let you split lessons. They also have really cheap 90 minute tennis clinics for $20 - I mean - how much better could that get?
The guy in charge of the racket, including sales and stringing them, Chet, is also awesome. I know I must be starting to sound like a broken record on the "they're all great" message - but they are. Chet has been incredibly patient with me in getting me into the right racket. I'm on my 3rd racket in 6 weeks - and Howie, the manager did me the kindest gesture on my newest racket tonight. I won't say what it was so that I don't start a bunch of people going to him for generosity - because I've probably earned some being such a regular/good customer, but let's just say I'm a really happy customer. I've had some really bad tennis elbow over the season too - and these guys genuinely cared and worked hard to get me better.
The locker rooms and bathrooms are always clean. They even have good vending machines. The ice water is always stocked on the courts with drink cups (NEVER out). The courts themselves and the surroundings are wonderful. Even the nets are always at the correct height, never sagging, no holes or issues. But I could probably play on cracked courts in Harlem and still enjoy myself with this team. Perhaps the best part about the club is the prices. I'd recommend purchasing a half or full year membership though - a membership will save you some time with your reservations and leave shorter lines at front desk for those who really need something. And I think it's important to financially support such a great situation to keep it going too.
It was a tuft call to write this overly positive review because Winter is coming and so are the snow-birds, so I don't want everyone who plays tennis flooding out to these courts, taking up all the availability, and leaving me in regret for spreading the good word - but hey - they've earned it. Compared to private courts or clubs, these courts are just as good (if not better), with a definite better staff, and all is incredible at Flamingo Park Tennis Center.
See you...
Read moreThe Park is gorgeous. All the upgrades have made the park shine. Unfortunately, a group of paddleball players from various parts of Miami and Broward came down to play on the newly painted courts and enjoy all the amenities the park had to offer. Most of the players have been playing on these courts for years but came together to enjoy the newly painted courts and the new pickleball court. We came with cooked food, sandwiches, tables to rest the food on, and two tents to cover the food and give our r senior players a place to cool off. The sad part is that the park ranger took it upon himself to say we could not have food, tables, tents, or music. We read the posted signs for the Paddleball do's and don'ts for what is allowed. We explained that this was not a tournament or a sponsored event, just a group of people some of who drove down from Boca to enjoy a great Saturday afternoon. The park ranger insisted that we leave and take all of our food, tables tents, and music out of the park. Once again we stated we were following the posted rules and nowhere does it give a park ranger the authority to create non-posted rules. He called the police and stood over us until we removed every table and every morsel of food, continued to harass the players and returned at 5 pm to ensure that we left the park. I am a retired Deputy Superintendent of Security and I was ashamed at how this was handled. I cannot return or bring my children with me for fear of park rangers making their own rules. I am a law-abiding citizen and a public park is open to all who come as long as they follow the POSTED RULES. I for one will not return. We fought for years to get the paddleball and handball courts rehabbed. We came to appreciate our long hard fight to have the courts redone and we were thrown out of the park. I would think that with the drugs and vagrants sleeping in the park, the park rangers could certainly avail their time better. The park ranger spent his entire day ensuring that his only job for the day was to enforce self-made rules. We were unwelcome at Flamingo Park, and I reiterate I will not return. I don't have the Mayor's office address yet, but I'm...
Read moreWhile Flamingo Park has lots of options for family fun with kids playground, pool, tennis courts, etc. the dog park is terrible. There are two gated areas for dogs. One is dogs under 25 lbs and the other is for dogs over 25lbs. This has never been followed. In addition, the dog park is constantly either under construction or completely flooded and muddy during most of the year. On my most recent visit, I could not even walk around because the ground was inches deep in mud and unkept grounds along with fresh dog sh**t that Sobe visitors/dog owners neglected to pick up. Oh...btw...all the dogs in the "under 25 lbs park area" were over 50 lbs. My 17 lbs dog and I left and went to Pine Tree dog park after one quick walk around in which my shoes got covered in mud and other stuff. Unfortunate, because this dog park is more...
