We were preparing to leave Miami and head back to Tampa, but before starting our journey, we wanted to enjoy a good lunch. After searching for nearby restaurants and reading some reviews, we decided to dine at Akash Miami Beach, which appeared to be a promising choice.
We were fortunate to find parking right in front of the restaurant, making it convenient for us to head in. Upon entering, we noticed the restaurant was nearly empty, and we were promptly seated at our table.
Since we had an infant with us, we ordered Dal Tadka with Rice specifically for him, along with a Mango Lassi to accompany the meal. For the rest of us, we ordered a variety of dishes, including Chicken Lollipop, Chicken Malai Kebab, Kadhai Chicken, Akash Chicken Curry, Garlic Naan, and additional Mango Lassi.
The service was quick, and we first received the Dal Tadka with Rice and the Mango Lassi. The Dal Tadka was flavorful and comforting, resembling home-cooked dal, which made it perfect for our infant. He enjoyed it thoroughly. The Mango Lassi was refreshing--not overly sweet, which suited our taste preferences perfectly.
Next, we received the appetizers, which included Chicken Malai Kebab and Chicken Lollipop. The Chicken Malai Kebab was a highlight--tender, flavorful, and perfectly cooked, with a rich and creamy taste that we thoroughly enjoyed. However, the Chicken Lollipop fell short of expectations. It was overly colored, leaving red stains on our hands, and the flavor did not make up for its appearance.
Finally, the main course arrived, which included Kadhai Chicken, Akash Chicken Curry, and Garlic Naan. Unfortunately, both chicken curries were disappointing. The dishes were overly colorful, and the flavors seemed off. It was evident that the tadka (seasoning) made with onions and tomatoes had not been properly cooked, and the use of tomato sauce as a shortcut was apparent and concerning. The lack of authentic taste and preparation was a letdown.
While the Dal Tadka and Chicken Malai Kebab stood out as enjoyable, the rest of the meal did not meet our expectations. The excessive use of coloring and underwhelming flavors in the curries overshadowed the...
Read moreDuring our recent visit to Miami, we tried out AKASH, an Indian restaurant located in the heart of the city. The overall experience was average—neither too great nor too disappointing.
We began with the Chicken Tikka Masala. The dish was okay but didn’t quite live up to expectations. The red chili powder had a strong presence, which overpowered the usual creamy, balanced flavor of the tikka masala. It wasn’t bad, but definitely not the best we’ve had.
Next, we ordered the Goat Vindaloo. The dish turned out to be extremely spicy—far hotter than we anticipated. When we informed the server that the spice level was too high for us, they were understanding and replaced it with the Madras Curry. Interestingly, the Madras Curry had flavor notes that were more reminiscent of Goan cuisine than traditional South Indian Madras-style curry. It was decent, but a bit off in terms of regional authenticity.
The naan and rotis were the best part of the meal. They were fresh, warm, and had great texture—soft on the inside with a nice slight crisp on the edges.
One downside was the restaurant’s tipping policy. An automatic 18% gratuity was added to the bill regardless of the party size. While this is common in some places, it felt forced, especially considering the service was just average. A tip should ideally reflect the quality of service, and not be a blanket charge.
In summary, AKASH is an okay Indian restaurant. It might satisfy a casual craving, but don’t expect bold, balanced flavors or fully authentic regional dishes. It’s a decent one-time visit, but not something we’d go out of our way...
Read moreThis is my first time writing a review ever for a restaurant and if I could give this establishment 0 stars, I would. Apologies in advance for the long review
BLUF: Food not good, delivery service even worse.
First let me discuss the service aspect of the delivery order that I made. The food order was $31.50 and they put a delivery fee of $7.00 (automatic) and I added a tip of $6.20. So roughly 45% above and beyond the actual cost of food. Not complaining about the numbers, but then it has to be worth something. I had placed special instructions on extra cutlery and extra plates. Surprise surprise.. did not get one piece of cutlery, one plate or one stinking paper knapkin. I called back and whoever picked sheepishly responded saying I should call the owner. No sense of taking responsibility for their failures when it was written clearly in the instructions. Even the receipt they stapled to the food bag had the comment. We were in a hotel not a mile from them and the address specified the hotel and room number - a responsible restaurant would take just that indication to provide extra cutlery. But this establishment couldn't be even bothered to read the instructions, let alone use common sense. Now to the food. The naan was cold and tasted like had been thawed out of the freezer and not warmed enough - I doubt it was freshly cooked. Certainly didn't feel like it. The rice was super dry and hard. The channa was extremely oily and I had to pour the oil out. Would never ever visit or order from here, even if someone paid...
