The reason for my one star rating is becauseI went for breakfast on Saturday around 3:30am. The food was Okay, Much more expensive than The quality of the food I Ordered a Dinner B&E Which was for $15 And two coffee. The home fries had no seasoning no pepper No onions, just plain and I had to resend it back because the potatoes were a little raw. The service was HORRIBLE!! My server was Juan M, he is rude and unprofessional, and he claimed to be the manager. The way he treats paying customers is offensive and disrespectful and very unprofessional!! The owner of this business should fire him immediately!! When I received my receipt, I saw I was charged for the two coffees separate so I just asked him nicely. I thought the breakfast comes with the coffee included instead of him just being professional and telling me no ma’am it does not it’s separate. His response was and I quote “ this is not McDonald’s. That’s right I said it if you Don’t like it and want something cheap go to McDonald’s” While he was saying it, he waved his Hands like get out of here . That the gentleman that was in the table next to me, just looked at me in Disbelief and then looked at him. I turned around and told him I want to speak to your manager. How dare you speak to me like that I’m a business owner and a customer and that’s not how you’re supposed to treat your customers. He then told me that he was the manager I said OK I’ll make sure to leave a review regarding your treatment to customers. He said he didn’t care so I went on to go pay the bill at the register because he rudely walked away from my table after he just insulted Me and humiliated me. So then I had to get up to go to the register to pa, he Then walks to the register and I handed him my credit card, which was a MasterCard. He Refused to Grab it from me and then Bangs on the register and turns around and tells me “we do not accept MasterCard” So I told him, but that’s all I Have. He then says “ Well, I’m calling the cops” So I turned around and told him good please do call the cops” Then a Gentlemen, I believe a waiter came from the back And spoke to me Nicely I’m sorry Ma’am but Do you have another card because we do not Accept MasterCar. I explained I do not. Every card that I had on me at the moment was all MasterCard and I showed him and he said no problem. Do you have Zelle? I said yes I do so I had to Zelle the gentleman so he was able to pay for me. Which was resolved within a matter of five minutes why was it so hard for Juan M to treat paying customers like human beings with respect. I repeat the owner of this business. Should fire this Juan M immediately!! I believe no one should go through any kind of a humiliation And disrespect, especially being a...
Read moreThis review is another entry in my tour of the places in south Florida where Guy Fieri has eaten at with his show Diners, Drive-Ins and Dives. The show first aired in 2006 and it is on its 42nd season of Guy's road trips across America where he highlights some of America's most underrated and delicious local eats. Guy visited the 11th Street Diner on the show American Classics which aired in December of 2008 with guest star, Rosie O'Donnell. Dishes he tried here included the Argentinian skirt steak, Oven Roasted Turkey, and Pork Chops topped w/ apple & raisins pork sauce.
The 11th street Diner is located in a 1948 art deco aluminum sided dining car built by the Paramount Dining Company of Haledon, New Jersey. It operated as a diner in Wilkes Barr, Pennsylvania for 44 years before being dismantled and reassembled and restored in South Beach where it is right at home among all of the Art Deco architecture. The 11th Street Diner opened in Miami on September 11, 1992 where it has been serving locals and tourists alike.
After our other dining plans through my friend and I ended up here and I am so glad we did because we had a wonderful experience. I have long wanted to eat here because I love diner food and I adore the Art Deco look. Inside is plenty of seating at tables and bars in the L shaped diner. On the wall are the autographed pictures of all of the famous people who have eaten here like Gloria Estefan and Will Smith. We sat in the room with the blue seats and the bar. You are dining in history!
The menu was several pages long with breakfast, cold and hot sandwiches, salads, seafood, pasta, and full dinners like the turkey one Guy ate. The cocktails and milkshakes sounded amazing. I was torn but I finally chose the patty melt, made with a delicious beef patty, American cheese, and grilled onion on toast and served with fries($15.99). I made sure to save room for dessert which was a slice for their wonderfully warm spiced apple pie ala mode. I love a historic restaurant and the food and service was great. For South Beach I thought the prices were pretty reasonable, certainly less expensive than where we had planned to eat. They even have a $9.99 cocktail happy four special from 4 to 7. This place ticked all my boxes and I would...
Read moreI left my apartment and wandered over to Washington to grab an orange pack of American Spirit and find something for lunch. I stopped at my usual spot. Strike one- No American Spirit. No avocado for my sandwich. It recently changed ownership. Go figure. Unmoored, unmotivated and unsure of what I would find for lunch, I wandered down Washington, a perfect street for the unmoored, unmotivated and unsure. Stop one: the convenience store for my smokes. The lady at the counter let me light my first cigarette of the month with a lighter on the counter since they didn’t have matches. What a gem. I headed out and took a left on eleventh, drawn to Miami Med. Strike two- it wasn’t opened yet. Google maps can be so disappointing when the opening times are off. I stepped into the shade of a blue fabric awning and made a suggestion on maps to adjust the restaurant’s opening times. Done. Then she called to me. The gleaming stainless steel, the glass, the memories of wilder times on South Beach- I crossed the street to the Diner.
It did NOT disappoint. I’m a local, and usually avoid the “tourist” spots, but I’m glad I didn’t this time. I walked in and the hostess met me with a million dollar smile. Sit anywhere, she said. It was lunch on a Wednesday so I had the pick of the litter. I chose the diner counter. The built-in stools, upholstered in red were ready for me. Almost immediately my server came to me, gave me a tall glass of ice water and the menu. He was super friendly, super professional. It was a refreshing change for South Beach. I chose quickly. Scrambled eggs, grits and whole wheat toast. It came quickly, brought to me by a man who looked like the cook, and it was damn good. Real eggs, real butter. It hit the spot and I decided that the 11th Street Diner was going to be in my regular rotation. After I ate I enjoyed the authentic diner interior for a delicious minute, paid, and...
