I love this walk and enjoyed it today, even in the heat. But as you will see in my photos, it needs up- keep, thus a 3 star. I ride bikes or walk from Millbury entrance near Blackstone mall to the welcome center after Walmart.
The path is nice and basically smooth. Weeds have begun to creep onto the path. At times, it's difficult to see around a corner due to the bushes, and I was nervous about hitting someone. So a good weed wak is needed.
If you go past Walmart, there is a welcome center. It has been closed when I walk later in the day. It would be SO helpful if an outdoor water fountain were there. On these hot summer days, a water refill would be appreciated.
Just past this is a board walk over the marsh. It's fun to see what you can spot. There are signs explaining the wildlife that lives there. There is even an emergency area if you need to call for help. You will see in the photo poison ivy growing onto the border walk... needs to be taken care of.
I haven't grown up in Worcester, so I don't know the history. I know it would be a huge undertaking, but if the Blackstone river were cleaned up, it would smell better, look more appealing, and we'd have way more species able to survive!!! I saw birds, turtles, and rabbits, and my son saw a deer.
I know the homeless are in need of shelters. They come and go near the path. 1 tent was there today, and several others in need of social services were ' hanging around'. I've never had any issues or problems, but beware.
I will be returning, but I hope soon a few up keep matters will be taken care of. Try it out. You'll be glad you went.
Hope soon I can put up a 4 or 5 star!!
Edit: returned today, July 22. It seems some of the trails have begun to be trimmed. With so much rain, I'm sure it's hard to keep up with the trim work. Found where you can drinking water...near the...
Read moreThe perception could be that this trail has all the makings for skid row. And yet it’s always been clean quiet and safe. Well maintained paved trails with broad bridges over the Blackstone River make this trail a gem of a connector between Worcester and Milbury. All the twists and turns of Rte 146/90 & 20 makes you think it’s further than it is and yet it’s a casual walk from Olive Garden in Worcester to the Blackstone Valley Shops in Worcester. Paved paths have always been clean and dry which adds extra value during...
Read moreIn just under 6-mile walk in length from end to end, I like walking this bike trail either during the bug season or in the middle of winter when other trails aren't walkabout. It's asphalt (which is hard on my feet and ankles) and easy to walk with the right shoes on. It's even good for kids to walk on. Just watch out for other walkers or bikers on the trail and stay to the right as much as possible. I like stopping under the bridge to check out the river as well as stopping on the bridges to check out the...
