My boyfriend and I stayed here for our anniversary the weekend of 3/12/23 and I have to say this place was incredible from even before our trip started to after we checked out and got back home. I was fortunate to have been able to work with the GM, Michael, who assisted us in extending our stay an extra night and who not only accommodated us, but went above and beyond by approving our cancellation through Booking and let us book direct through the hotel which saved us quite a bit of money. We were put in suite 401 and the room was spectacular. The room was spacious, the king bed was very comfortable, and the view of the Mackie Building across the street was stunning! The high ceilings and grand windows give a wonderful feel of luxury in addition to the lounge space. We arrived just before 2pm and were given a tour of the community lounge and our room and was surprised with a bottle of prosecco and a card congratulating us on our anniversary in our room which was a beautiful touch. Around 5pm, 3 complimentary bottles of wine were put out for guests and French pastries (incredibly delicious!) in the morning. The community lounge which is on each floor, had ample seating, a large fireplace and full kitchen to use if needed. The espresso machine is simple to use and makes delicious lattes! There is a massive fridge with assigned areas for each suite if you wish to store snacks, left overs, or maybe a few beers for your stay. The location is perfection and even though we brought our own vehicle, we left it with valet for the duration of our stay and walked everywhere. Valet is $35/day with unlimited check in/outs which is very comparable to the garages nearby. I personally loved that the majority of communication for our stay (checking in/out/valet) was done via text as there is no reception desk and for us the process was very clear and concise. You are given your suite number and a code for the door to access it upon check in time and it is as simple as that. You are given another code at the end of your stay which notifies the housekeeping staff that you are checking out and to come take care of your room. We had absolutely nothing negative to say about our experience and the top notch service extended to after our stay when I realized I had left behind my airpods in the room. I emailed and called Michael a few hours after checking out with this information and received a call back the next afternoon with the great news that they not only located them, but that they would be mailing them back to me asap, free of charge. All in all, we were extremely satisfied with our stay here at the Kinn Guesthouse Downtown and I will be looking forward to our next...
Read moreI stayed at Kinn for a company retreat and really enjoyed my stay for the most part. My room was clean and it felt luxurious with a huge bed and high ceilings, and the conference rooms were nice for our breakout sessions. The shared space of the kitchen/lounge area was also inviting and tidy. Great location being within walking distance of the MKE Public Market and fun shops and restaurants.
Most of the staff was INCREDIBLY helpful and kind (Lola was so nice), but I had a negative experience with the owner, Charles. I ran into him when I first checked in and he greeted me with a handshake and introduced himself which I thought was so neat, but then I ran into him again later during my stay with a group of my colleagues. I lightly pointed at him (not with an outstretched arm like a kid or anything obnoxious, but with my hand by my chest) and said, “Oh, you’re the owner. Nice to see you again, it’s been such a lovely stay!” And he scolded me in front of my colleagues saying condescendingly, “It’s rude to point. You shouldn’t do that.” It was really odd and off-putting. After he walked away, a few others next to me expressed how they thought it was odd. From that experience, I don’t feel like I can recommend the hotel to family and friends knowing that their money would go to this person.
Some other feedback: The shower in my room would randomly get scalding hot or lukewarm, and I had to tinker with it constantly. The toilet paper roll hanger was also very loose and seemed like it may fall off the wall. Lastly, the lady running the valet when I first checked in and checked out always looked at and spoke to me like she was confused that I was there. For example, when I first arrived and went to check in and give her my car keys, she looked at me with a skeptical, furrowed brow and asked, “Do you have a reservation here?” I felt like she was confused maybe by the way I looked as I had comfortable travel clothes on and my hair was up, so I felt the need to say, “Yes I believe so! Sorry I know I look scrappy right now.”
I feel bad giving the hotel a 3 star review since it was an overall nice experience and most of the staff were great, but the valet and owner especially really left me with a bad taste in my mouth.
EDIT: thanks for your response, Charles, I appreciate it. I had a great time overall and know many of my colleagues did, too, but wanted to share my experience...
Read moreMy sister and I stayed here for the Harley Davidson 120th Homecoming. It is a beautiful hotel and so convenient to downtown and the Third Ward district. We only had a few minor complaints. When you walk in, it can be a little confusing. There is no concierge or check-in desk, just some couches and a counter with a sign to contact valet service. We were sent a code for our room but with no other direction, we weren't sure how it worked. Luckily, the Manager Michael came out of his office and we got assistance. He is wonderful and very helpful. If you needed anything, he was readily available and his office is just off the "lobby". The rooms are really comfortable and spacious, with soaring ceilings but we did have a few minor issues. There were two light switches just inside the door for the main room and then two in the separate bathroom. The bathroom light would not turn on unless we flipped the switch for the main room on! That was annoying when one of us had to use the restroom and the other was trying to sleep! We think one of the switches in the bathroom was for the fan but are not sure; it never worked. That was fun listening to each other use the restroom - not! If we were staying more than 2 nights, we probably would have inquired to see if we were just idiots or if there was something wrong with the electrical. And while the soaring ceilings are incredible, it is difficult to close those super high curtains. If you don't mind light disturbing your sleep, not a big deal, but we couldn't get those curtains closed tight enough (and we're both just shy of 6 feet tall). There is a wonderful common area for each floor with a full kitchen, living area and dining area where guests can hang out, interact and even make a full meal with all the amenities provided - full refrigerator, stove, microwave, dishwasher, pots, pans, dishes, utensils. The refrigerator contained a small tub labeled for each room if you needed to store anything cold. Delicious breakfast pastries were put out each morning, and they also kept an array of cereal, oatmeal and granola stocked. All in all a very pleasant stay and would stay...
