I really really love the Pfister ever since the first time I came to Milwaukee @18 years old. I’m 33 years old now. I was able to spend the night there for the 1st time a few nights ago. And loved the hotel even more. However, I was not pleased with the blatant discrimination and stereotyping I recieved from the front desk personnel upon arrival at the hotel. I believe her name was Jade. I was told that my room was not paid for. Even though it was. She then told me to swipe my card for the full balance- even though my room was already paid for. So idk if she was scamming trying to get my card number or what? But I was thrown off. Then she asked “Do you have the money or not?” So I left. I got about 45 mins or so out, by Waukesha when my sister called and asked where I was. I told her I was driving back home to MN because the room had not been paid for. My sister assured me the room was paid for- and called the hotel. To which I was told “I don’t know why she told you the room was not paid for because it was” so I in turn turned back around and went back to the hotel. When I got there I waited in Jades line again. When it got to my turn- she skipped over me to the person at the desk who was already being helped. No apology from her. Nothing. I guess she assumed that because I’m black I couldn’t afford the room? Idk what her reasoning is. She literally refused me a public accommodation that was paid for. There was no reason for her turning me away. Considering the fact that I do quite a bit of human/civil rights activism I was upset. In the morning I spoke with Dina the manager and she was absolutely great! Apologized for your associate and comped my breakfast. However, I did file a complaint with Human Rights and the BBB , because how many other people has she done this to. It is unnecessary and completely unfounded. Just because you don’t believe I deserve to be there DOES NOT GIVE YOU THE RIGHT TO TURN ME AWAY. I’m going to need Miss Jade to get familiar with the laws of this country. Under the Civil Rights Act of 1964 TITLE II, a place of public accommodation cannot discriminate on the basis of race, color, religion, or national origin. So unfortunately for Miss Jade, I know you feel like my melanated self doesn’t belong in those social circles, that’s why you tried to exclude me lol BUT I AM PROTECTED BY THE CONSTITUTION AND THE GREAT LAWS OF THIS COUNTRY. I deserve to be anywhere I so choose that is in a public space. YOU CANNOT JUST DENY WHOMEVER YOU PLEASE. Especially when she tried to charge my card for a room that was already paid for. And if i didn’t have the money in my bank account “you can just leave, so I can help someone else” She in no way shape or form tried to secondarily charge any other patrons of the hotel in front or behind me. Miss Jade never told me any of the amenities- the only way I found out about the pool on the 23rd floor is because she told the person ahead of me and the person she skipped over me for. When I finally did make it to my room and called about valet- she was not helpful AT ALL. I asked if there was a phone number to call- she said No I would have to come down myself. Albeit I was already comfortable so I declined. However, when I came downstairs in the morning the Bell Man told me I could have just called them. So I guess Miss Jade felt like she didn’t have to help me at all. Or make sure I knew about the amenities. I felt very unwelcome because of her. As if I shouldn’t be there. This wasn’t my crowd, type of thing. She tried to socially exclude me because she felt like I was inferior I guess to all the other guest. That’s why she tried to keep me out of the amenities and perks. I will be contacting the United States Attorney for Milwaukee County. THERE IS NO EXCUSE FOR DISCRIMINATION AND OR RACISM IN THESE ESTABLISHMENTS. There was NO REASON SHE DENIED ME A ROOM THAT I PAID FOR So for that I’m giving the service 1 star. However, Dina was great! Give...
Read moreMy husband has been taking me to the Pfister Hotel and Spa every year for my birthday or weekend get aways for years! But the last two years have been awful. Sadly, our long standing tradition has to come to an end. I don't think we will return. Both years, loud music from events or weddings. We were not able to sleep. I asked to change rooms last year, finally at 2:30 a.m. they let us! We had to pack up all of our stuff and move half way across the hotel in the middle of the night. This year, we arrived and were told our room was not ready and it would be a half hour wait. Check in is 3 p.m., it was 4:30 p.m. and no room. We had dinner reservations for 5 p.m. and needed to change clothes, etc. The front desk said it was a house keeping problem. The entire lobby and bar seats were filled, we had to stand in the hallway by the elevators and wait. Wouldn't you know, the Bell Hop walked by with our bags and my husband said, "Hey thats our luggage." He informed us he took our bags to our room and the front desk gave it to someone else! We purposely booked the new side because the previous year we were on the historical side and that's where the noise issue was. The first room they gave away was on the new side but when our room was finally ready, again it was on the historic side, rm 528. I informed the front desk we requested the newer side. They told me they could not change it at that point in time. We had to get to my birthday dinner, we couldn't wait, and thought, it will be fine. Again, loud music/wedding and it lasted until midnight. Again, I informed the front desk and was simply told sorry about that! We didn't sleep a wink! In fact, my husband asked me to drive home after checking out at 10:30 a.m. because he was so tired he wasn't sure he could. In addition, my husband bought a package that included parking, a $40 breakfast voucher, art museum tickets plus a bottle of wine. They never put the wine in our room. I went to the front desk and asked for a credit. The front desk said they would take care of it, little did I know, they did not! My husband planned a birthday toast and gift opening, it sure spoiled that surprise! The next morning, we went to breakfast. When we got the check, the waiter told us we had to go to the front desk for our food voucher, that it couldn't get charged to the room. Again, we stood in line 20 mins to get it. Additionally, our food showed up an hour + after we ordered. The manager stopped by our table and said, "I am so sorry you are still waiting for your food, it's a kitchen staff issue making poached eggs." She offered us a pastry, we declined, didn't want to spoil our breakfast. When the food came, it was ice cold, wrong, and the potatoes were burnt to a crisp! At that point we just wanted to leave. We checked out and no wine credit. I asked why no credit for the missing wine. We were told that not only did our package not include wine, but it didn't include a parking voucher either. Thank goodness my husband had a screenshot of the deal and confirmation. The reception desk then told us we had to send them the screenshot/confirmation of what the package included because that is not what the deal said on their website "today". My husband said of course not I booked this way in advance. Proving our rate and package details took us another 20 minutes. After all of that, they still didn't credit us for the missing wine, rather gave us a bottle of cheap $11 dry wine to take with. We don't drink dry wine. The wine was meant for a toast when celebrating, it's of no value to us at this point. Last, the spa steam room malfunctioned, cutting our time short. We spent $700 for one night (18hrs) expecting a modest luxury hotel experience, didn't...
Read moreOur wedding was 9/3/23 and it was one of the most incredible weekends of our lives. The Pfister served as a gorgeous backdrop to the weekend, and if we could do it all again we would absolutely host our wedding there with no hesitation at all. A few notes as to why: -Event Coordination: We booked our wedding date around 1.5 years in advance, and admittedly throughout that process there were some staffing changes that led to some miscommunications that collectively had us a bit nervous for a brief period. However, in retrospect, that might have had more to do with how far we booked ahead. Regardless: Emily Kucek, our coordinator with the venue, was SO kind, SO helpful, and SO organized from the time we started working with her to our special day. We were planning from out of town (NYC), and she helped us organize everything at a distance and schedule our tasting when we would be in town visiting family so that we felt confident about everything day of. -Hotel and Event Staff: From the moment we arrived, every staff member we worked with was so kind to us and helped us with anything we could need. A standout moment was when I left my cell phone on the front desk the morning of the wedding, didn't realize I was missing it, and a kind man from the bell stand (should've gotten his name) hand delivered it to the room we were getting ready in (without judgement, lol). -Hotel: My guests, most of whom were from out of state, raved about how beautiful the hotel was, how nice the accommodations were, and the staff. As an added bonus, when we checked in we were shocked to find that our suite was upgraded to the most beautiful hotel room I've seen ever and surely the nicest one I will ever stay in. What a surprise!!! -Ballroom: We used the Imperial Ballroom, freshly renovated. our guest count was just under 100 in the end, and it was arranged beautifully to feel spacious and elegant but not at all empty. The renovations are lovely, it's still a historic beauty but refreshed. As sunset begins to happen and the soft lighting is turned on... breathtaking. If I can attach a picture I will. -Food and Drinks: Great! And lots of options to accommodate different needs for the event, the day of, and different dietary preferences or requirements. My husband and I are foodies and I am a vegetarian so really good food for everyone was a high priority, and our expectations were met. Side note: the butternut squash soup.... my god. I need the recipe. -Other notes: Emily was able to procure us space in the hotel for a rehearsal, as well as for the girls to get ready day-of. These were both perfect spaces for the occasion. Pro-tip: we ordered catering ahead of time through Emily to feed me and my bridesmaids, and it was awesome and so convenient. Really helped the day go smoothly as we didn't have to leave to get food or assign anyone to bring it in, etc. On that note, I'll close with that: our day went incredibly smoothly and everyone at the Pfister made that possible. My husband and I remain grateful and now the Pfister will be a place we are always eager to return to when we are in Milwaukee. *Note: photos attached by...
