I had been disappointed in my visit in April, but my visit in October was a complete turnaround and I had an awesome time!
I've always enjoyed oddities and unusual facts, so I knew I'd want to visit Ripley's Believe It Or Not Odditorium when I started visiting Myrtle Beach a few years back.
Among my favorite exhibits and activities are Robert Wadlow, Ripley's Attic, the matchstick roller coaster & Ferris wheel, the vortex tunnel, the memory game, the prize ribbon American flag, the video on Robert Ripley's life, Recollections, the Mandolinsect, Gears, and the various sculptures and other artwork made with everyday objects and unusual mediums.
The new music in the lobby and Recollections is fantastic! The feel-good music, along with the beautiful artistry, makes Ripley's Recollections my favorite shadow dancing attraction in Myrtle Beach!
The new clown in the activity area is cool, the trick mirror and the light that flashes different colors at the end of the vortex tunnel are awesome, and while I miss the animatronic Robert Wadlow in the lobby, the little cowboy is cool too. I miss some of the songs that played in the vortex tunnel, but the songs that still play are cool. I love that the fun, epic music was playing again in the activity area!
The staff was awesome! I visited during the week of October 9, and while all staff was friendly and helpful, an extra special shout-out to the gentleman in the lobby at opening time on 10/13...I had questions about the haunted house and he gave me a lot of info, and he was very welcoming...made me feel like part of the family! The Mandolinsect display didn't light up when I pushed the button on 10/12, and a maintenance person fixed it during my visit. I had planned a different place on 10/13, but I had such a good time at the Odditoriun and the new Ripley's attractions on 10/11 and 10/12 that I decided to go back on 10/13. I did the Aquarium+4 ticket.
The all-new Mystery Gate near Lizard Man and Vampire Woman was a very nice surprise! I enjoyed opening and going through it while watching the videos.
The museum is clean, colorful, and beautiful, with clean restrooms.
I recommend getting a combo ticket or an Ultimate Fun Pass to save money and maximize your fun! I plan on getting an Ultimate Fun Pass next year as I visit the Ripley's attractions multiple times during my Myrtle Beach vacations.
I'm so glad I gave Ripley's another chance, and I am looking forward to coming back in the spring!
Update 5/6/24: The fart sounds in the bathroom were absolutely hilarious...I couldn't stop laughing! The bathroom facts on the walls were cool too! I also enjoyed the facts about steps as I went down the steps at the end...that was really cool!
Just one suggestion: perhaps put a few seats in the museum for guests who have to stop and rest periodically. Otherwise another great time and I know I made the right choice in buying an Ultimate Fun Pass... already a great...
Read moreThis is hard to write. We did the pass for Aquarium plus all 5 other attractions. The Aquarium was awesome as far as the exhibits. However, the week we were in MB also happened to be the week TS Debbie passed by, but the day we went the rain was on and off bit the worst part was instead of getting the guest in out of the rain no you were worried about taking pictures and making us stand in a loooong line getting soaked. But if you go on a nice day guess it won't be bad to stand in a 20 minute or so line while they take a picture that is not cheap. We then went to the crazy mini golf, which has a cool concept and some really neat hole themes. The bar in their is nice because the way they pack people in and the amount of time you stand waiting ro take your turn on the holes you need a drink. The following day we came back, which is nice, we went to the museum first. The Ripley's museum was neat and had alot of cool things to see and some to interact with. Just on the way out you are led through an arcade, Do Not get sucked in. All the games are high priced, the card seems cheap, $20 for 90 points as they call it. But every game is 7 or more points. So you get to play 7 - 12 games for 20. If your ok wit that just check the games first because the day I was they literally every other game was not working. Then we each had 2 or 3 points on our cards. I asked the attendant if he could put it on one card so we could use it and he said you can I just don't know how to do it. The Haunted attraction is pretty neat but I don't think they change it up so once is good. But the interactive buttons, jump scares and the actor made it really cool, a must do at least once. The mirror maze is ok, the led light room in the middle is cool. The Illusions lab is a neat concept, makes for a few neat pictures with or of your kids, but is really small and only worth it with the combo ticket if you ask me. So in short, if you don't mind the price, some lines and standing around or if you need indoor things to do then Ripley's is not a bad attractions...
Read moreOur two boys love Ripley's. We've been to three different Ripley's and have made it a point to visit any Ripley's in towns where we vacation. In comparison to other Ripley's, this one is a little smaller than others we've visited - wit many of the same exhibits. That said, our boys still loved it and had a blast. They especially loved the interactive dance party exhibit.
You can't beat Ripley's for budget friendly, family entertainment. We were there in the off-season (Thanksgiving) and it wasn't very crowded. It took us about an hour to go through the entire museum. During peak season it might take longer.
The only reason I didn't give this visit 5 stars was because we had an issue with our tickets. I purchased the Skywheel/Ripley's combo pass online. When we went through the Odditorium the Ripley's employee told us that we just showed the same printed pass at the Skywheel for entry.
After Ripley's we walked over to the Skywheel and we were told by a manager they wouldn't honor our tickets. The Skywheel manager blamed Ripley's and said I needed to go back there to obtain special tickets from them. Needless to say it was frustrating.
I ran back to Ripley's because I knew they were closing. By the time I got there they were closed. Thankfully, they young man who took our tickets remembered me. He said the Skywheel manager was incorrect and that they only give paper tickets when you purchase the package in person, not online. He was extremely nice and helpful and I tend to believe what he said because that's the same thing it said online. He gave me the paper tickets and apologized for the inconvenience. He was much nicer and more helpful than the Skywheel manager.
Overall a great experience and a must-do attraction with kids when visiting...
