It was definitely an experience playing the game, especially with the horror theme. My friend invited me along when she took her brother and cousin to see how it was. We played Jane Doe, and the actors and props were amazing and well-done. However, the gameplay went downhill.
While it was mentioned that Jane Doe has a maximum scare level, the expected level of fright was there. But as an English speaker, the actors didn't interact with me as much compared to others who spoke more fluently in Chinese. Despite the mention of an English version (?), I missed out on the interaction the actors had with the players that would mainly talk in Chinese.
Additionally, although the staff mentioned waving at the camera in case of an emergency, the ONE walkie-talkie was given to another player who got separated from the others. With no form of communication, my friend and I wanted to quit because it was truly frightening, and we couldn't continue the game. I waved at the camera a thousand times with no response from the staff. I even shouted/screamed at the ghost that we give up and want to quit, but the staff continued to try to scare us. It was not fun.
While I agree that the horror theme and atmosphere were cool and interesting, the safety of the players and the idea of fun were lacking, in my opinion. I did suffer some pain from a fall while being chased (which was expected, as all injuries are the responsibility of the players who signed the waiver). But when a player wants to quit, they should be allowed to quit. Instead of having one walkie-talkie, they should provide two (one for the captain and one for the vice-captain). I also want to mention that there was no age restriction, as other players were junior high school students. One even nearly suffered a panic attack due to the terror, and it took the staff a maximum of 15 minutes to come?
I don't think I'll ever recommend this place to any of my friends. While I understand that the theme is to scare players, the fun aspect is just not there, sadly. I personally like horror and mystery, and this place certainly excels at making it scary. Still, I would have appreciated it if the staff recommended it to beginners or asked if they had ever played before to allow newcomers have a better experience of this...
Read moreMy friends and I ended up doing the 'Return' room (one of three english friendly rooms as of this review) as our first experience, and it was definitely more than we expected. Our only regret was only bringing 6 people instead of the max of 8 people for the room.
We were not expecting it to be as large as it was, and when we learned we were basically going to get chased the whole time, and mostly alone to top it all off. The only thing I didn't like was how it was basically pitch dark in the hallways, because it was a little difficult to not basically run each other over in the chase sequences, but it makes sense since the actor needs the cover of dark to move freely. Extremely terrifying and fun, 10/10 would go again.
I really hope all the rooms get translated soon, as this is something I'd like to do all the rooms for. We probably made the staff laugh at some point because one of the actors was entering the room we were in, and when we were cowering in a corner the actor left the room and the staff told us we were supposed to run away from the actor in a...
Read moreVERY SCARY BUT FUN! I had a lot of fun with friends as we got to complete several activities/puzzles while getting jump scared or chased. I did the Jane Doe English version. They will blind fold you and have you walk into the escape room before starting. Some of the puzzles were difficult to figure out so we got to ask questions or receive some help or clues through a walkie talkie with a worker. There are live actors that will really play their role in the story. The rooms are pretty dark so sometimes you need to be careful not to trip. There’s also sounds and music to enhance the experience. Although pretty costly, I do think this is a very good one time experience. I also think the escape rooms/stories are a lot more scarier if you have the Chinese version instead of the English. At the end you do get 3 short black and white clips from your experience. However they don’t have sound and you have to rate 5 stars to...
