The relationship between a man and his barber is no laughing matter. It's a bond that goes beyond the fresh cut and shave. There's nothing quite like sitting down in the chair and uttering the simple words "Same story", without having to worry your sideburns are uneven in all your wedding photos.
Selecting a barber is never an easy task. Perhaps you're new in town. Or you moved from Brooklyn to Manhattan and you're tired of commuting two hours every two weeks for a cut. Or you were never satisfied with your current barber. Or he simply disappeared. Whatever the reason, rejoice, you will not have to look any further.
Josef has been cutting my hair for seven years now. I've had a couple dozen other people cut my hair in my lifetime - some for a few months, and most not more than a few occasions. But when you can finally find someone who can do it right, it's a great thing. Not only is Josef a skilled barber, his attention to detail makes him a master of his craft.
B & H Barber Shop is a very welcomed addition to the neighborhood. There were no corners cut when the shop was designed: the heavy-duty chairs are of high quality, the full-length mirrors are angled perfectly, and the feng shui complements the spacious expanse. I prefer to call and schedule an appointment, but if you prefer to drop-in, feel free to have a complimentary coffee or beer while waiting. The price is competitive so why not give it a shot?

Ā Ā Ā Read moreI moved to NYC from Indiana, transplanting into an apartment a few doors down from B&H. Not knowing anything about where to go for a barber, I saw the signature bright spinning barber shop sign outside and thought Iād give it a try. All the guys are great - Joe, Alex, and Jay.
When I walked in I was greeted with an energy that made me feel these guys were going to take care of me. My first haircut ever from B&H was by Jay. Jay is a talented barber that can execute the look you want. I have had bad experiences with barbers in the past who do not know how to properly cut thicker, curly hair. I told him the look I was shooting for, and he hit the nail right on the head.
Iāve been going to B&H for six months now, and what keeps bringing me back isnāt only the fantastic haircut. Itās because of the guys in there, specifically Jay. If you take the time to engage with Jay and learn his story, heās a very interesting, great guy. Jay also makes a point to learn about you and your background. He genuinely cares, all of them do.
If that wasnāt enough - one night I was walking home after a day out on the town, and I came across B&H throwing a party for their 1st anniversary since their opening. While I was walking by, Jay ran out of the party and grabbed me, & then served me some of the best whiskey Iāve had in a long time. I got to celebrate a year of hard work with these three funny, energetic, cool guys.
Keep it up B&H, Iāll see you...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreB&H is the only place I go to in NYC. Finding a new barber at a new city is always tough, especially one who can cut hair well for Asian people. Even though thereās also Chinatown, Ktown, or Flushing, I was apprehensive to try somewhere that may be difficult for me to communicate with if there was a language barrier. A friend who had sharp haircuts referred me here, and I never tried anywhere else since for the past 9 months.
Josef who owns the shop is on point. For my 1st cut, he asked some questions and tells me how heās gonna cut it before he does to ease any potential anxiety for trying a new barber. I get a pompadour with a fade from a 1 to a 1.5 every cut, which looks great every time. Heās able to properly maneuver through the two cowlicks on my head, which is typically difficult for barbers since most people have only one on the top of their head. Heās always communicative and collaborative about the cut, which is what youād want from a barber.
Absolutely recommend this place. The only other person I trust with my hair is a stylist in LA (ktown). So thatās the level of excellence and precision he has in my book. Itās also incredibly affordable ($32). If you want to get a wash after the cut, itās a few dollars more. Since his schedule is intentionally not on the website, you have to call to book an appointment. And if youāre into house music, the playlist at the shop is...
