I have wanted to see the Garden inside at Ford for quite some time and am so happy to have finally gotten the chance . The space is stunning and very serene.
Yes , you need your ID and your bags are searched but it’s worth it . The staff is very nice . I was lucky enough to meet an employee, Renee Airall , and she was just lovely . She gave us some details about the speaking panel , all with a smile .
It was wonderful to see captions /subtitles on the screen behind the speakers so the audience could not only hear every word but also see it . Captions benefit everyone in my opinion .
Accessibility at Ford
Main entrances are wheelchair-accessible and have power-assist doors
The garden includes a wheelchair-accessible path reachable via a self-controlled passenger lift in the southeast corner. This path enables access to the majority of the garden.
All floors are reachable by elevator
Braille integration and wayfinding signage is available throughout the building
Every floor includes wheelchair-accessible restrooms
A restroom designed to accommodate people of short stature can be found on the 11th floor
Service animals are welcome; however, pets are not permitted
The Ford Family Auditorium has wheelchair lifts that provide access to the stage along with accessible seating areas. They also have set up an induction loop that amplifies sounds for hearing aids. Information about the accessibility features of our other convening spaces can be found on their Event Spaces page.
If you are planning or attending an event and have questions about their accommodations and accessibility services, please contact the event organizer or send a message to thecenter@fordfoundation.org at least two weeks prior to the event.
They will make every effort to help you fully participate. You can also call Tel. (+1) 212-573-5000

Read moreI love to get away here... Sit tranquilly by the fountain and inhale the scent of the green atmosphere. Unfortunately the atrium has been shut from mid-2016 through until March 2018, I've read. This has put a damper on my New York winters. Whereas before I had a peaceful, warm, nature retreat to escape to from people on icy cold days, now I'm left searching museums (The Rubin Museum is calming also) or cafes for a quiet spot to meditate, clear my mind and reconnect with nature, with no other place in the city filling this void... This building, with its healthy office space designed to oversee (and smell?) the green foliage ground floor and look toward the clear glass windowed sky, has forever imparted its organization's core values and a sense of peace upon me. It's depressing to not have this or any other indoor garden to escape to in this busy city, especially during the cold months. Hurry up and open again!!! I would love to get involved with the Ford Foundation on social change...
Read moreI know the term, "hidden gem" is overly used. But this truly is hidden and it is truly a gem. You would never expect such tranquil beautiful place in the heart of midtown. It's a great place to unwind. Also be sure to check out the museum (it's small but they have some very interesting items) I assume because it's in such close proximity to the United Nations they ask for I. D, and they do check your bags. You can expect to spend anywhere from thirty minutes to an hour. Security guards are actually very nice and helpful, unlike most places. There are restrooms as well. They are open 11-6, And they are closed on weekends, unless there's a special...
