BUYERS BEWARE!!!
Buckle in, this is a long one!
I called the dealership after seeing a GR Supra listed on their site at MSRP. I spoke with Phillip who confirmed the car’s availability and price I saw online and asked if I was interested in putting a deposit to hold the vehicle until it arrived as it was still in the build phase of production with an estimated arrival 9/28 - 10/14. I informed him I was, but had a deposit at another dealership that I would need to make sure I could have refunded and that the other dealership was out of state and I’d prefer to work with a local dealer if possible. That car was quoted and listed at MRSP. I also informed him I would be away on vacation for about 7 days (10/4-10/11) during the estimated delivery date and wanted to make sure that they would hold the vehicle until my return if it came during that timeframe. He transferred me to his sales manager Miguel to confirm.
This is where I should’ve seen a red flag. I explained the issue of possibly being away when the car arrived. Miguel seemed annoyed and was pretty rude about the situation and said they could only hold the vehicle for 2-3 days before the sale needed to be finalized and that they couldn’t hold the car until November for me. I explained it would not be until November as I would be returning 10/11. After that he seemed to relax a bit and stated they could hold the car as long as I put insurance on it to show I was coming for the vehicle. We ended our call there and he said to call back and speak with Mo if I wanted to move forward.
I thought it was a strange request but when I called back and spoke with Phillip again a little later and he assured me that they (the dealership) would still own the vehicle and be responsible if anything were to happen with with the vehicle. He informed me I may want to act fast as he heard there were 2 other people interested in the vehicle who were coming the next day for an appointment. I told him I would reach out to the other dealer for my refund and call back with a deposit. I was able to secure my refund from the out of state dealership since they had multiple other people in line to put a deposit which means I lost that option for a car.
I called back the next morning and Phillip took my call again and transferred me to Mo who would be handling the deposit. I told Mo I was interested in the vehicle and he asked if anyone went over pricing, I told him no thinking he meant tax, title, document fee, etc. and said I saw the car was listed at MSRP. He said no actually they are selling the car at 5k over… I was in shock, I just gave up a car at MSRP to go with Toyota of Bay Ridge just to be told AFTER the fact that it was $5,000 OVER MSRP! I explained to Mo the car was shown listed at MSRP when I spoke with Phillip and Miguel the day before and no one informed me of the inflated price. He said he’d talk with his sales manager and see what he could do.
To keep this long story from being longer, after some back and forth they said the best the could do is $2,500 over MSRP… I checked the website again and NOW the price was adjusted to reflect the markup. I informed Mo I wasn’t willing to pay over MSRP as I already had something secured that was lost due to their sleazy business practices.
I understand the Supras are not a high production vehicle but a vast majority of other dealerships are selling at MSRP. I spoke with probably 20 other dealers trying to get the car in the color and transmission option I want and NONE of them were over asking. They may not have had exactly what I wanted but they were ALL upfront with their pricing unlike this one who just wanted to turn a profit and doesn’t care about its customers.
Edit:
I reached out to Georgio as he requested and he said he reached out to their sales team to see what happened. But was basically told they could/would not do anything to rectify the situation.
It’s been a few weeks since this happened and I now see they have the vehicle listed back at MSRP. I guess no one wanted to get screwed over and buy at the...
Read moreMy car was left at this location for repairs after an accident. When I picked up the car three weeks later the damage was fixed, however there were scratches not from the accident left on the car, also a service light was on (I was told the light was going to turn off, and it didn't)
All the above mentioned issues aside, my major issue is the fact that items left inside the car were rearranged or missing. The people doing this weren't even discreet about it, leaving items under the seats, in the doors, and leaving open boxes from my trunk organizer outside my trunk organizer. In short, I gave the dealership a five thousand dollar profit, and they left me with a nasty taste in my mouth.
This dealership is closest to where I live. I wanted to believe that the service side was be better than the sales side, it wasn't. When I came in looking for a car, I knew exactly what model and trim I wanted, and the dealer kept telling me to look at "all" the models. It was a strange experience and I actually walked out of the place as if it was a bad movie The car was purchased in Queens. I would advise everyone to stay away from Bay Ridge Toyota.
Besides my car being in complete disarray at the time of pickup, some souvenirs (pictured) were left in my glove compartment and the trunk!!! Once again, if anyone is considering doing business with this dealership? DON'T! Avoid it like a plaque.
About a day later I actually looked closer at the paint, and was unpleasantly surprised once again. Major damage to my car was to the drivers front wheel and internal components, and there were a few scratches on the side of the bumper (no dents!). Now I have what looks like angle grinder marks under the paint. I'm just amazed at the awful the quality of work everywhere at this dealership!
I posted the picture of the paint job multiple times, and it keep getting deleted after just one view!
To reply to the owners statement. I was offered a free car wash, and no one reached out to me after I picked up my car. Many of my above-mentioned concerns were discovered after I left. You have my number and could call me directly, instead of creating a facade that my concerns were addressed.
Update. I was convinced by the manager that they want to do the right thing, and fix any issues that I might have had. I was reimbursed for the missing items, and the cleaning products that will help me to detail the car. The bumper was repainted and the low tire pressure light was fixed.
However, about a week later the tire light went back on, I checked the pressure and it was exactly as recommend by the manufacturer on all the tires. I checked a few hours later, and the results were the same. So, I called the dealership to speak with the manager, he has told me that it has nothing to do with their work and that I should schedule an appointment for a warranty issue! I explained to him that this is directly related to the work that they did on my car that only has 6000+ miles on it, that the car had no issues before the accident and before I brought it for repairs. He insisted that my issues is not related to their "quality workmanship", and that now they will only deal with it on warranty.
At the end of the that conversation I contacted Toyota Corporate office, and filed a complaint about this dealership.
I stand by everything I stated in this review, and urge everyone not to use this Bay...
Read moreMy girlfriend and I bought our very first car (2024 Venza) from Toyota of Bay Ridge Brooklyn, with the help of Sabino Coppola and his team. Sabino delivered a car buying experience that is one of a kind, and in my humble opinion, should be the benchmark of the car sales industry. From start to finish, he was straight forward and meant business. A few days after scheduling an appointment with Sabino to see a car I had been interested in, I was surprised to receive a phone call, updating me that a car I had made an appointment to view, was no longer available. Sabino wanted to save me a trip to the dealership. To my understanding, this is not the norm, as most dealerships would do everything they can, to get your foot into their door. I had previously worked with numerous dealerships where I’ve visited with an appointment, just to be told that the car was sold already, after already showing up in person. I did not get any of these games from Sabino, and in fact, I felt that my time was valued because he kept me updated.
Buying our first car came with some anxiety, especially hearing the negative connotations around working with dealerships. Until this experience, I was not aware this industry has sales professionals like Sabino, who shows up to work to do business, and to truly help his customer with their purchase. Sabino’s team gave me a new perspective on what a car buying should feel like. After finding out which car I wanted, business with Sabino was as simple as a 10 minute phone call, where he understood my needs, and met me at a price that we both can agree on. He then sent me the agreed out-the-door price via text, pictures of the car with the VIN, his full name, and the name of the dealership. No gimmicks, just straight business. That gave me the confidence to go into the dealership to meet him in person that very same day. He guided me through the paperwork, and addressed all of my concerns, even if it meant him asking around to find the answer for me. Before I could fully digest how close we were to the finish line, Sabino handed us the keys to our first car. It was nothing but a pleasure working with Sabino Coppola. I look forward to a future, where buying a car can be this easy at...
