After waiting for over 3 weeks to watch the much anticipated Oppenheimer movie in IMAX, we were utterly disappointed when we got to what we thought would have been an unforgettable experience. It was unforgettable alright, but for all the wrong reasons!
Sharing a screen size of 80 feet (24 m) wide by 60 feet (18 m) high, with AMC Metreon 16 & IMAX in San Francisco, this true IMAX theater is the 5th biggest IMAX in the Uinited States!
The picture & sound was was as expected from a true IMAX experience; spectacular and breathtaking!
There are a few reasons why I have given this theater and this specific IMAX screen room 13 a 1 ⭐ review.
LATE SCREENING START TIME:
On our tickets, the showtime said the movie would start screening at 7pm. They didn't begin until 7:14pm! Up until then, nothing was being projected on the screen.
When they did start screen, it directly started with projecting the movie. No previews whatsoever.
SCREEN OBSTRUCTION;
To experience the movie in it's true IMAX form, we chose our seats to be toward the back hoping to get a clear view of the screen. Regardless from virtually where you sit in the theater, the seats in the row front of you would prevent you from seeing the complete screen. 1/10 - 2/10th of the screen was blocked. Whoever designed the sitting for this theater, really did not think things through. It was extremely disappointing to not be able to see the whole screen.
To add to that, the reflection of the light and railing in the very front was being reflected/projected on the screen causing a distraction and took away from the movie experience.
PROJECTOR SOUND: Given we were sitting towards the back of the theater, our ears constantly heard the grrrrrrrrrrrrrr sound of the projector running like a generator. Now yes, it's true IMAX, so a film is on a reel and is working it's way, however, the loud sound hear by the audience is something I haven't witnessed since the early 90's! A simple solution would have been sound proofing the projection room, like they do in other theaters, peherpahs?!
THE SEATS:
The seats esthetically look good and aren't traditional recliners, but do recline 10 or so degrees when applied some back force to them. This would be great, only no force needed to be applied for them to get reclined. Just the fact you sat with your back leaning like you would ok any chair, it would automatically recline. It doesn't give you an option if you don't want it reclined!
DIRTY THEATER:
I go to movie theaters every week to every other week. Yes I'm a movie buff and enjoy getting emmerced in the experience and enjoy the art of filimaking.
One of the most rudamemtary things expected from a movie theater is to have the theater cleaned before the next batch of folks would get there to enjoy the movie.
I found several seats, cup holders and floor covered with popcorn, tissues or oil stains.
Extremely disgusting and disappointing!
Overall Experience:
The movie, Oppenheimer was great! I however regret choosing to come to this theater to experience what I though would have been an unforgettable experience. Well it is unforgettable, but for the wrong reasons.
Given I'm being critical and most people wouldn't mind or notice things like these. That said, for someone who truly appreciates cenima, and understanding the hard work it takes for filmmakers to make such mind-blowing movies, they would want the audience to experience the cenima in its true form and in an environment that allows the audience to get emmerced without distractions.
I hope the management takes things mentioned here into account and makes changes to the most rudamemtary practice of keeping their theater clean!

Read moreOverall the area is awesome, bit my experience with the staff was atrocious. Went to purchase the beetlejuice merch this last Friday and was told over the phone I could and by the door greeter I could, went to the stand asked for 1 of all items 1 of each bucket 2 available and 1 cup with each topper 4 in total for my collection and was told I needed to buy a ticket before they could sell merch..no problem..the manager came up (girl with glasses) and called me a reselling scumbag and told me I would have to purchase 5+ tickets for all items I was wanting to buy, I asked where in the policy was that rule and when did it start I was told instantly "it started right now" I noticed that all the concession workers started grouping up behind her and I made the comment are we about to jump the customer?why are we huddled up here? And they scattered..so I got my 1 ticket and combo and was able to get the bucket unwanted.15 for the ticket and 70 total in transaction 35 each bucket.I then asked her if I would be able to return the ticket living almost a hour away there's no way I'm going to come down for the showtime..she told me she wasn't aware of it could be refunded it was a corporate issue..I asked her if she was the manager on duty my answer was sarcastically given with sighs and eye rolls yes I am, to my reply was then shouldn't you know your own policy her reply was not for a scalper i dont..as I was walking out the door boy told me to "kick Rocks" as I was walking by him I turned and told him to shut his piss poor attitude up and to stand up straight because he wasn't even there when I walked in..I had to email corporate to reinsurance about the refund policy amd ticket policy and I was told to go back and refund my ticked amd I did amd was told there is no standing policy that states ticket purchases must be made for every item of merchandise bought.. Were talking 35 a bucket and cup with topper 5 toppers 2 buckets...1 of each item with 5 $15 dollar tickets added on...complete scam operation...made thus issue aware on insta and the comments were removed and disabled completely for the public, just shows the cover up scam the manager and ger friends...
Read moreBrings back memories! Coming into the theater its pretty clean. I was greeted with great customer service and given clear instructions how to get to my theater. Surrounding the snack bar it does seem a tiny bit dated but nothing bad. Looking around from the snack bar down both sides of the theater I would say cleanliness is about 8/10, there were some areas near the snack bar that had popcorn and wrappers on the floor that could have been swept up by staff, given the amount of staff I seen behind the counter and customers within the vicinity for about 10 minutes. Our theater was 18, so we had to pass the bar as well, which looked overly staffed. Maybe about 6 people behind the bar. I assume they may have been training or having a meeting cause they weren't just lollygagging around back there. Walking to the theater also is clean as well. The theater room itself does not have the new recliners we may find at most theaters these days, I assume those would be in the RPX room. I was seated in the middle of the stadium so walking up from the ground floor the rows were clear from food or obstacles that may have been left behind, I cannot tell what was past row G but still safe to assume it was clean as well. After the movie the theater crew were prompt as hell to come clean, the lights literally just turned on and about three people come around the bottom corner to start cleaning and also greeted us and wished us a goodnight. Restrooms for the men's was kept well also no papers on the floor or smells of urine and counters clear also. My family member used the women's and informed they were also kept well, no foul smells, no trash on floors and counters kept clear also. The reason for 4 stars is due to the equipment within room 18. Anytime a white scene or the screen shows bright white, there is noticeable yellows lines running down the screen. It wasn't noticeable during the play of the movie, trust me I tried looking, UNTIL some bright white scenes showed up. Experience was great I just hope management let's their team know they did great as well and also look into the cause of yellow lining on...
