This place is a far cry from what it was in the 90s and badly needs some better management and leadership. To start, I have been coming to this mall since the early 90s and things are night and day since then. First off, the place has become a hangout for teens in the afternoon/evenings, which is not a bad thing in and of itself, but they are not properly supervised. If I were managing the mall, I would restrict anyone in the mall under 18 unless they are actively with a parent/guardian. My kids were bullied by a group of older kids, a couple of whom they knew, and those kids had just been kicked out by security the week before. Somehow, they were just allowed to return. They were defacing mall property when I saw them, and I confronted them after they bullied my boys. I did report it to management the next morning. Second, I do some food delivery on the side occasionally, and a friend of mine convinced management to put takeout parking so we do not have to walk a half mile to pick up food. They did this for a time, but then removed them. My buddy said the property manager told him it was because people ran over the parking signs!!! I could not believe such a RIDICULOUS excuse!!! That does not get the handicap signs removed! Furthermore, the selection of stores has really declined over the years, but it does not seem this way at comparable malls around the area. Definitely could use some fresh faces with good leadership and new ideas in that office! And bring back the...
Read moreNice, Clean Mall in a Great Location, just off the I-24 Exit 4 ramp to Hinkleville Road West, with many hotels, restraints and locally owned businesses all throughout the area. However, it seems it's nearing a "tipping point", teetering between success (and continued build-up of the Concord/West Paducah area OR plummetting into the red causing economic desecration of Paducah's economy. After the closing of Sears, Gander Mountain, several in-line stores like Vitamin World,, Lane Bryant, and nearly the entire food court being empty leads consumers and investors seeing one thing and one thing only; Extremely Piss Poor Mall Management. The failure of every locally owned and small franchise company that once was booming in this mall rests squarely on the complete incompetence of mall management. I would gladly use the skills I learned through years of formal education and decade of owning my own local company to turn the mall back around so fast there wouldn't be enough room left for the massive number of businesses that would rush into the mall. But that's a story for my Facebook page (contact me, Elliot Polach, on Facebook, if you have any questions, comments, criticisms...
Read moreI miss the days of going to the mall every Saturday, hanging out at Pocket Change, beating all competitors at "Mortal Kombat" II and 3, then going to the Chinese restaurant next door to replenish my strength. I always thought it was cool that, for a while, they had TWO Kay-Bee toy stores and TWO book stores. Great times, great memories. I can't believe it's been so long.
Does anyone remember Legends comics (next to the larger book store) and Debco used games (next to Venture)? I loved those stores' selections, but the employees were so rude! I once filled out a questionnaire Legends had customers fill out, to see what they could do to improve service, and I wrote that they should "quit treating people like s**t." I still have my comics and games, so I guess it wasn't all bad.
I remember when Hot Topic first opened, I went in there to check it out (I never saw one before). Marilyn Manson was all the rage, and everyone was dressed accordingly. I asked the kid if they had any Motley Crue albums. He rolled his eyes and said "No." I left.
I'll always have a big place in my heart for the 90s...
