UPDATE TO MY REVIEW: The owner contacted my directly. They handled the situation promptly and with professionalism. It’s not often that you see customer service handled in such a great way. I just want to say how much I appreciate the care and concern that was displayed by Beth & Sydney for recognizing the issue and handling the situation the way they did. It shows integrity and care on their part. Thank you. We will be back in the future.
Original Review:
I hate to post this, but it’s time something is said…
I used to love coming here but unfortunately I won’t be going back. I’m a local and I own a small business downtown. I have tons of customers and tourists come in and ask me where to eat downtown- I would always refer them to Gurley St Grill. But the last handful of times the food and service started going downhill. Tonight was the final straw. Started off by ordering a NON- alcoholic beverage. I was looking for something hot to drink with the snowy weather. They were out of hot chocolate but the server said that she could have her bartender make a non alcoholic version of one of their speciality drinks. I was hesitant because I cannot have any type of alcohol due to health reasons. The server assured me that she would make sure the beverage had no alcohol in it. When she delivered the drink to the table she stated that the drink was a definitely a virgin drink once again. I started drinking it and it tasted pretty strong. The server had not been by the table for about 15 minutes after dropping off our drinks. I continued to sip on it, trusting her reassurance thinking that maybe the strong taste was the cinnamon in it. When the server finally came back to check on us, I brought up my concern. She once again stated that the drink definitely should be non- alcoholic. She comes back 5 minutes later and apologies saying that the bartender missed the “no- alcohol note” and that I had been drinking an alcoholic beverage. Not good. Then our meal arrived, my husbands steak tasted like something that had been frozen, microwaved, and turned to rubber. It was pitiful. We had also ordered the “add on soup” to our meals and asked to have it brought out ahead of time. The soup didn’t come out until long after we started eating our meal. Lastly, when our check was delivered, to our surprise it was almost $100! I was charged full price for an alcoholic drink (which I specifically didn’t order). We were charged $13 for two tiny cups of soup. When we asked why the soup cost so much, our server told us that we were given 2 bowls of soup at full price (not the advertised price of $2 added on to any meal). She then told us “sorry” and shrugged her shoulders. Two average meals (pot pie & the exorbitantly priced sirloin steak, 1 happy hour beer and one non- alcoholic beverage) cost us nearly $100. And we went home hungry (the steak was inedible) and with alcohol in my system, which is extremely dangerous for me. I hate complaining about anything and I even apologized to the server for bringing up my concern about the drink tasting “strong”. Terrible customer service- handled poorly, and frankly just not worth the price. We won’t...
Read moreCame in the other day because my family had fond memories of the Cajun Chicken Pasta and were not impressed with our experience.
I want to say that the highlight of our meal was our server, Victoria. She was wonderful and did her best to remedy a situation that was out of her control, and for that we’re grateful.
Now, the appetizers were fine (we got onion rings and fried zucchini/mushrooms), albeit a little bit soggy. The portions were good for the money. However, when we received our food, almost everyone at the table received food with a problem. 4 plates had cold food immediately after being set down on the table. One of my friends didn’t get his meal for 7-10 minutes after everyone else received theirs. Most of us didn’t want to complain.
After one of us told our server that our pasta was lukewarm, she promptly took it back to the kitchen to fix it. 5-10 minutes goes by and when she brings it back, it was the same lukewarm temperature that it was sent back in. We asked if it could just be microwaved, and were told that they “could not do that due to health reasons/freshness”. I’m sorry, what?? I’ve never been to a restaurant where this has been a problem before.
After mentioning this immediately to Victoria, the manager came over and was not apologetic in the slightest. She seemed immediately defensive and patronized us, talking down to the one who had voiced the problem with the temperature of his food. No apology, just came out swinging with “Well, we have to make the food fresh and we’re not microwaving it. If you want to come back and watch them make the food fresh, you’re more than welcome to. Meh.” Just unprofessional, really.
Victoria offered to get another (hot) replacement and take it off of their bill, which was appreciated. But the main problem was that the issue was handled the issue poorly by the manager, and we did not feel like we were appreciated as customers. We likely won’t be back and will instead support other local restaurants who know how to communicate with their patrons and serve...
Read moreThis place was incredible. I only ordered takeout, but for some reason, most of the restaurants in the Prescott area now shut down at 8pm or earlier but thank God for Gurley St Grill they're open until 10pm weekdays & 11pm weekends. The dinner I ordered was their Beef Stroganoff and it was on point. Delicious gravy, tender succulent steak pieces, with perfect pasta and sour cream plus to chives to top it off, it was divine. I highly recommend this place, plus the very friendly and pretty girl who was working when I came in made it that much better. Great food, great atmosphere, wonderful staff, amazing food, and open later than the other restaurants which is a huge plus. Please give them a try, you won't regret it. I'm just updating my review because we've been ordering food from the Gurley Street Grill for the last year and they have great food. Great food, good prices, and they're about the only classy joint open late up here in Prescott which usually caters to older people who eat dinner around 5pm, so they can be in bed by 9pm which means most of the other restaurants up in this area close between 7 & 8 p.m. while many of us other people who run things a little later or work graveyards and beyond are left with few options to grab a decent meal with somewhat higher quality than McDonald's. I'm very thankful to have Gurley St Grill with their more normal hours of operation, their sincerely friendly and respectable staff, and their delicious menu options. You should give them a try, you won't regret it, I promise. And if you do happen to have a subpar meal, do yourself a favor be respectful and remember they are about the only place that is open late in this entire place and I am a big guy and a big fan of theirs. Choose your...
