Palace Restaurant & Saloon — Restaurant in Prescott

No longer a place that we will frequent. We came here the day before Christmas Eve to enjoy a nice Christmas dinner as a family. We decided to “splurge”. Sure wish we didn’t! I ordered the salmon, my husband ordered the steak and our daughter ordered a burger. When the meal came, everything was completely cold. Our server didn’t come to check on us for over 20 minutes after the food was delivered so we ended up just eating the main course and leaving all of our sides. I honestly hate complaining but we knew we’d be dropping over a $100 on our meal. When she did come and check on us, we politely told her “I’m really sorry to complain but the Mac n cheese is ice cold as well as the fries and the green beans are completely raw.” She said, “Well I don’t know what to tell you about the green beans- I’ll see if they can microwave them to cook them more and I’ll get some new Mac n cheese” She brought us a new order of everything and the Mac n cheese was still ice cold and the green beans were still raw. We told her again and she just shrugged and said sorry. No offers of different sides. The salmon was also way overcooked and rubbery but I didn’t say anything about that (I should have). Also, they were out of soup, which was supposed to come with our meal, and didn’t offer any other alternatives. She then came and dropped off the bill which was $96! We left hungry because we only were able to eat 1/4 of our meals since everything else (soup and sides) were either missing or undercooked. The Palace used to be awful but since the new ownership, we’ve been thoroughly enjoying the food lately. I own a small business in town and I always recommend my clients to go to The Palace now and tell them, “The food is really good since the new owners!” but I definitely won’t anymore. It wasn’t just the fact that the food was awful, it was the way the situation was handled and not even one care given. If I’m spending $100 on a meal, I would hope that it would at least be warm, edible...

Tldr: For a quick bite or drink at the bar surrounded by staff dressed up as prostitutes and cowboys it's kind of fun but overall disappointing.

It's over the top-kitsch with a lack of intention and feels more like someone's house when they aren't sure what to do with their stuff than a fun place to eat. I think it was originally supposed to be charming and historic but feels cluttered and uncomfortable and and so cheesy.

The menu is also disappointing, I don't think it's been updated since the 90s. It feels like it was designed by someone who doesn't really care about food. The actual food quality was in line with chili’s or Denny's, but at a higher price point. It’s definitely not the place to order a steak, and with only one dessert option (cheesecake), we had to go find birthday dessert elsewhere.

Service was a mixed bag. Our server was great and clearly working hard, but she was spread too thin. We waited almost 30 minutes just to place drink orders. The food did come out pretty quickly when we did finally order. The rest of the staff wasn’t rude, but there wasn’t much warmth or hospitality either to the point that I was feeling inclined to apologizing to them for disturbing them. The host stand is awkwardly placed in the middle of the dining room, making arrivals walk and then stand over tables that were already seated.

There were also a few odd details that took away from the experience, like being seated next to a pile of cardboard boxes and using a bathroom stall with a broken lock (which I was told “has a trick” to it, though it didn’t work for the next person either). A simple fix like a hook-and-eye lock would solve that quickly.

I do appreciate the effort to preserve the history of the place (the glasses are hilarious) and its unique nod to Prescott’s past. With some fresh eyes and a few updatesjust it could be a really fun and memorable
