Silver Beach (and a nearby beach) is one of my favorite beaches on our planet.
Silver Beach is a 5/5-Star Legend. With a bluff that overlooks the magnificent Lake Michigan, you get to experience culturally diverse beach-goers, boardwalk strollers, occasional bicyclists, spectacular restaurants with diverse cuisine, beautiful and breezy rooftop bars in downtown St. Joe. This place has spiritual significance for me.
Don't Change, Silver Beach. Don't get too crowded. Keep remaining clean, safe, and beautiful! You are a phenomenal, spectacular, clean, scenic, secure, safe, cultural, sophisticated and simultaneously relaxed beach.
This was the only problem really. I was swimming for exercise, mental clarity, and physiological alignment, and a motorboat drove up on shore interrupting a lap I was doing in Lake Michigan. I don't mess with nearby boats when I am in the water, so maybe implementing a "No motorboats 100m from shore, except at official shore-docking zones," protocol for safety would be a good idea. The large boat just drove up to the sandy shoreline, gliding by swimmers. It was potentially dangerous.
That said, I sometimes prefer a nearby beach with less crowds, but you know some days, Silver Beach is the best beach to be at! That's a fact! This beach is HAPPENING! Very lively bustling active, beautiful beach. Because this beach is spiritually significant to me, I love Silver Beach!!!!! Silver Beach has got a good long, clean, healthy, festive, noteworthy history in literally in one of the most beautiful, clean, safe, efficient and relaxing cities in the world -- the city...
Read moreThe beach is kept clean. They sweep it every morning with a tractor. It was pretty packed when we were there but we still easily found a place to set up our umbrella and stuff. We had to park on top of the hill in the downtown area as any closer spots were full, but the second day we went early and paid the $12 to park at the beach. Our parking spot was steps from the water. Highly recommend paying that is you have kids or a lot of stuff to carry.
There's a pizza place nearby that looked and smelled delicious. There's an ice cream, snack/food, and kayak/paddle rental stand right on the beach, as well which is nice. The bathrooms we're about what you might've expected on a 95 degree day the weekend before the 4th of July, but they served their purpose. I do recommend changing before you go to the beach of possible because there's not much space in the bathrooms to change. They allow most toys, floaties, and practical things like that. No glass, alcohol, and I think pets also aren't allowed at the beach, but are allowed on the sidewalk pretty close by.
I'm not sure when the lifeguards come on duty but they're done around 6pm. All in all, it's a nice family friendly place.
I definitely would say it's worth a visit. Cheap fun and great for families. The downtown area nearby is also...

As a frequent visitor of silver beach I have to say my most recent visit (Sep 13) was by far the worst. My friend and I wanted to have a relaxing day and come to the beach before it got too cold. While at the beach, we were laying on the sand and a lady we didn’t know came up to us. She said, “Hey, do you ladies know this guy in the white hat, he was taking pictures of you and walked away”. We told her we didn’t and noticed he and the group he was with were keeping eyes of us. As we made our way to the front to leave he put his camera in my face and took photos of my friend walking away. My friend did her best to let someone know there was someone going around and taking photos of women and children, but she was met with, “Sorry there are laws that prevent us from going up to him”. So because nothing was done this person is still on the loose taking photos of you and your children.
P.S I literally have a photo of him taking pictures of people but apparently that wasn’t enough to warrant a request...
