We decided to splurge for our anniversary. I've been here a few times for work meetings, and the food had always been tasty. We made a reservation, letting them know it was our anniversary, and when we arrived we asked for a quiet table. We were seated directly in front of the kitchen and were treated to the rattling of dishes and silverware being put away and large carts rolling by. We started with the honey fried cauliflower, which was very good. As we were waiting (a very long time!) for our entrees, I told my husband I'd never had a bad dish here. And then our entrees came. He had the catfish, which was unique and enjoyable. I had the vegetable paella. The presentation was quite lovely, but then I took a bite. It tasted like dirty dishwater, and was overcooked to the point where everything was complete mush. I tried another bite, but it was so unpleasant I decided I'd rather not eat it. My husband agreed it was not something he'd want to eat. At most restaurants, you'd expect to see your server come back to check on you soon after delivering your food, but this was not the case. My husband finished his entire meal and the busboy came to take away his plate. Then we waited a while longer before our waitress came back. She saw my mostly untouched meal and asked if I wanted a box. I told her that the meal was actually not very good at all, and I did not want to take it home. At this point she asked if I wanted something else instead, so I asked for the barbecue chicken. We again waited a very long time for the food to arrive (at least she brought us a few rolls so I could snack on something while we waited). The chicken was fine, but nothing special. I expected to perhaps get a visit from the manager or something, but that never happened. After the appetizer and rolls, I wasn't terribly hungry, so it didn't take me long to be ready to leave (especially since we'd been there almost 2 hours at this point due to the slow service). We again had to wait for our waitress to come back so we could get the bill and leave. She brought the bill and it had all 3 entrees on it, and then she claimed she must have forgotten to take the one off. They do have some interesting food, and some of it is very good, but the service was absolutely terrible and it really put a damper on our anniversary celebration. I would be hard pressed to recommend...
Read moreThe food was decent and packaged with care. The level of service I received and how I was treated upon picking up my carryout order was less than pleasant however. I suffer from a chronic illness and have been dealing with back to back migraines for over two weeks straight now. I didn't have it in me to make dinner last night, so I decided to support local and pick up a late dinner for my family and I. It was 23° and SUPER windy. As I said, I was doing a carryout order, so I just went in my sweats. The restaurant closed in less than an hour and was not busy at all. The hostess greeted me with kindness and quickly went to the back to locate my order and get me checked out. While I was waiting, there was an older gentleman at the bar who kept blatantly starring at me. I would look down and look up and lock eyes with him. It made me feel super uncomfortable and as if I was a nuisance for being there in his presence. A couple moments later, an older waitress with braces came up to me all bugged eyed asking me if I needed help, almost implying that I did not belong inside the building. After I explained I had a carryout order and was already being taken care of she let up a little, but there was definitely still some tension and the vibes were totally off. If my medications did not prevent me from drinking alcohol, I would have walked up to the bar and sat down and had a drink just to stay a little longer in hopes of making others feel as uncomfortable as they made me feel. I did not drop $80 on dinner to be treated and disrespected the way that I was. There are plenty of other great restaurants in the area that deserve the support over this establishment based off of thr experience I had and I will be taking my business elsewhere in the future...
Read moreA wonderful restaurant located in downtown St. Joe's. Their excellent hospitality was felt from their watestaff, to their bartenders, and the executive chef. A well thought-through menu pairs with craft cocktails to make this a dining experience you must check out.
The Fritto Misto is delicately battered and adds a beautiful texture to this dish. The addition of asparagus, mango, and Fresno chilis creates a mix-and-match of flavors to allow you to find your "perfect bite." The bay scallops didn't add much once fried and could have been left out.
My hidden gem in this menu is the Humboldt Fog Brulee. The balance of flavors and textures that span from one end of the spectrum to the other creates a culinary song that will make you smile.
The "Little" Caesar is far from small. It includes a very delightful play on the crouton. I would recommend the addition of anchovies to help balance the salt and acidity. However, the roasted tomatoes tie this dish together nicely.
Pappardelle. It was everything I expected and everything I didn't. The ingredients read rich, rich, rich...and I was right. However, the wild mushrooms, which included morels, added a much needed earthy punch. I was taken aback by the bed of noodles, which needed a knife to cut through. It was a very heavy dish, and I used a lemon to provide some relief. It is a great choice that creates...
