Do NOT EVER use their framing department for anything you care about. I brought my fiance's military ribbons and plaque from his marine service in Okinawa Japan to be re-framed after it was ruined in a move. They quoted me two weeks to simply re-frame something that was already put together. I felt this timing was a little ridiculous, but went with anyway- which was my first problem. On the day I was to pick it up they called and said the pieces they needed to assemble did not fit right and the frame would need to be ordered again. They then quoted me another week. Another week went by and I went in to pick up the frame, only to realize that the mat that they had put it on was REALLY dirty. On a marine blue mat, there was dust and crap all over. The blood stripe from his dress blues went down the middle of the piece, and that was folded up and not even level. It looked ridiculous. They said it would take another day to fix. I came back the next day and the lady had added another layer to the mat. This would normally be no big deal- but I had reverse beveled each of the layers- and she put this one with a regular bevel, added a weird white stripe, in the middle of a previously cohesive piece. The brass plaque that was also given in perfect condition was scratched and damaged. the girl took no responsibility, and said, "It's been sitting in a cubby since we got it, so that wasn't us." I was LIVID. I yelled at the girl that her and her family are welcome for his service for their freedom- she responded with "Ma'am, we ALL have military family." to which I retorted, "And there's no damn way that if you did this piece for one of them, it would take you 4 weeks to get it to them, AND THEN STILL BE WRONG." Might I add this woman was a MANAGER. Unbelievable. They gave me a 40% discount, but I ended up paying over $100 for something I'm going to have to redo. I wanted to at least present something to him, as this was our anniversary. When he opened it, the icing on cake- they had assembled his ribbons, which included a Navy and Marine Achievement medal- UPSIDE DOWN. I gave this to them as it was originally framed- and I am not familiar enough to know it was upside down when I picked it up. I'd also assume that ANY reputable framing department would see enough military frames come through to know how they should be displayed. I will NEVER use Michael's again for anything quality- want dollar store craft crap at a jacked up price? Michael's is great for that. Want anything quality? Bypass this company. ...
Read moreThere's a dark haired cashier girl at this store that can't read or write in English, and that is why she turns away people. I am not sure how she does her job. She doesn't know the sales nor does she know how to sign people up for accounts. If you got a girl that told you cash only it's because thar girl can't read. I asked that they change cashiers after that, and they changed her out for another dark haired girl that looked like she was hung over from the night before and barely there mentally who yelled at people to just use self check out. Kind of rude. She told me she had just woke up and had a very 'couldn't care less attitude'. She was like a rude adolescent zombie. She too didn't know how to sign me up for a store card and the store manager had to jump in and take over right after helping out another couple of people. Only got help from a kind Latin American gal (who helped me to my car) and the store manager who gave me a 20% off after being told about how i was being treated and then finally seeing it first hand. I'm sad that this is customer service now a days. I remember applying to Michael's ages ago for a seasonal job and they told me I wasn't skilled enough. What skills were they looking for? Physical appeal? Unfortunately Michael's is a lower paying job and we have been getting the bottom of the barrel kind of people here. I wish it wasn't so. I was just in town for holiday shopping and the store was dead even for a Saturday after...
Read moreThis nightmarishly low ceiling Michaels is one of the only craft store options in Salt Lake, but my last experience was so bad I will never shop here again, and neither should you. I don't really care that walking into this store is like walking into a dungeon for hermit crabs, but what I do care about is that finding someone to help you navigate the either completely packed or totally barren isles is more difficult than getting a one on one with the Pope. Even if you are unlucky enough to somehow find a member of their staff to help guide you through this asbestos corn maze, chances are they're going to treat any question you give them like you're trying to trick them into actually doing their job. Again, I don't care if you treat me like a complete idiot for not knowing where to find something because maybe I am terrible at finding obvious things, but when I stand at the framing counter in the back, and the woman assisting me is making rude comments about every customer that comes up and ask's her a simple question about where to find something, that is inexcusable behavior. I am not your friend, I am a customer too, and telling me how stupid every other customer in your store is doesn't exactly make me feel welcome to return....
