The hotel location is fantastic if you're looking to stay in the Gaslamp quarter- you literally couldn't get much more centrally located. I stayed 3 nights (Sat to Mon). Gaslamp is a busy, noisy place at night, so if your room overlooks the street, I would imagine it will be loud. Mine was thankfully at the back, so I didn't have any street noise. The hotel itself is fairly nice (by lower-mid range Marriott standards). The room was built to a high spec, bathroom was better than most Marriott properties, bed was comfy, etc., but what lets this place down is the internal noise. They are still doing construction internally, which woke me up at 7am two days in a row, and you also can hear EVERYTHING from the hallway (more details below). For parking, I'd skip the hotel valet (stupid money) and park at one of the garages a couple blocks away instead ($25-30 for 24 hours). I think the best is the "Park it on Market" garage. I would potentially stay here again, but would wait until construction has finished and have some earplugs handy just in case.
I'll explain more about the noise, as this also ties into the poor customer service rating I'm giving. They are working on the rooftop bar and decided that hammering at 7am was a good idea. I called hotel reception, who were useless and said I'd need to speak with the hotel manager . . . who shows up at 10am. I told her about the issue and she genuinely couldn't have cared less. I got the 'ol fake smile and "I'll go speak to them right away," but it was pretty clear from her body language and tone that she was not going to. Even if she did, the more frustrating part was that she made no offer to make things right with me.
When checking out, I mentioned the construction noises to the person checking me out. She was VERY concerned about the matter. When I told her I'd spoken to the hotel manager about it already, she asked me what the manager did to compensate me, to which I said, "nothing." Thankfully, I was speaking to the Director of Operations (Tori) who (#1) had more sense than the manager, (#2) noticed I had status with Marriott, and (#3) offered me Bonvoy points as a consolation. I would have preferred just not being woken up in the first place, but at least Tori tried to make it right, so I'll give credit where credit is due. If you do have any issues during your stay, seek out Tori instead of dealing with any other person on the...
Read moreFRAUD!!! FRAUD! FRAUD! Bait and switch in prices. LEGAL ACTION WILL BE TAKEN! I don't usually write reviews but I had so you would beware and never stay here I stayed at the AC Hotel Gaslamp location July 17-20 2023, confirmation 97167662 total cost billed of $ 675.25 with a $100 incidental per night which they taxed at $325.74 . When arrived the front desk staff were fantastic, professional a young man and woman, they even recommended TACO GUARDO to eat on the corner. They even exchange out room that was designated a "SUICIDE" ( staff called it that) room on the 2nd floor with a room with windows and curtain and life on the 7th floor. The problem lies because first we were told by the Manager Katie (middle age woman older woman) at check out that the last night stay would be $1500 due to the Comiccon convention( Comic Book) , that was the rate they were charging on the 19th. Really, we already paid in advance for the room and had the confirmation, after instant prayer and showing documentation she finally honored the said contract that was paid in advance. Here is the kicker. The incidentals I mentioned, she keep those on and taxed it. They front desk clerk after calling said they would drop of after 5-7 days. It never dropped of and when we call, they said there was no record of the transaction from the EliLilly Credit union account used ($325.75 withdraw Conf. 669247301926679). Katie the manager said" there is no record" but when we call the Eli Lilly Credit Union they said, "Yes, clear as day they took it off and that is a FRAUDULENT transaction. A company can get there processing abilities taken away for that can prosecute by law. Katie the manager was mad that she couldnt charge us the premium hotel rate of $1500 during Comic Con, so she stole it on the back end and withheld the incidental fee ( I guess so she can make her bonus) and did the same thing to my elderly aunt. We were In San Diego from Indianapolis, doing a wellness check on Alzheimer family members and get kick in the buttock. A shame. This charge has not been dropped yet. You dont mess with a child of God, God has a funny way of allowing thing to happen when you mistreat and rip off of of his own. This a multimillion dollar company and you still $400 from a retired person. NOT GOOD. What comes around goes around, the law of reciprocity and the...
Read moreWhile the hotel itself provided satisfactory accommodations, our experience was disappointing by an issue regarding the advertised amenities. We booked our stay specifically for the location and rooftop pool with daybeds and a bar (travelling from NY to San Diego in February we were hoping to utilize this during our stay), which was a major highlight in the hotel's online promotions. We had tried accessing the pool with our key card and it didn't work. After approaching the front desk about this my husband and I were informed that the rooftop was permanently closed, a 'fact' not mentioned during booking or check-in.
Despite our inquiries and attempts to access the rooftop, which were unsuccessful, we later faced claims from the hotel stating that the rooftop was open during our stay. This contradiction was not only confusing but extremely disappointing. Staff explicitly told us that the rooftop was closed permanently, yet the hotel management later denied this. I am seeing other reviews from a week ago that it was open so this makes absolutely no sense to me. After they told me it was closed indefinitely why the hell would I try again to access it?? I was also asked for proof of this interaction why would I have recorded something like this??
While the rest of the services at the hotel were adequate, the lack of access to the amenities we most looked forward to, and the handling of our situation, leaves us feeling deceived and undervalued as guests. Although we did not receive any reimbursement from the hotel, Expedia stepped in to offer us a credit for the inconvenience.
For future travelers, while the hotel offers clean and comfortable accommodations and is in a great location (party spot on the weekends and gets noisy, didn't bother us though), please verify the availability of all advertised amenities and take any communication from the staff...
