First off let me just give a little bit of background. I am a professional businessman and had stage 4 liver cancer and pancreatic cancer. I was given 9 months to live back in 2019. Well I’m still here by the grace of god and great doctors. During my cancer fighting I lost half of my intestines and can not eat or drink much or the reflex causes it to come back up. Well we traveled to San Diego and after dinner decided to go to Werewolf to watch some friends sing karaoke. As we were watching them prepare to sing the dinner and water that I had earlier was playing its tricks with me so I decided to step outside and stand on the curb and I would spit the water out that I had been drinking. It was as a person who would be chewing tobacco would be doing. Again in the streets. As I turned to go back in with my friends a gentleman approached me and stated I’m not welcome back inside the pub. I asked why and he said because I been throwing up and had enough to drink. I said I don’t drink and was spitting in the street because I have cancer and I only have half a stomach. The guy said sorry you need to speak to my manager… Well he came outside and approached me and in the mean time the group I was with was like asking what’s going on. I explained to this guy now I don’t drink and explained my condition. He said “ yea I can tell you’re not drunk, you can go back in”. Well no problem right but as I was sitting there I could see both of the guys talking to thier bartenders laughing and looking at me. Very insulting and embarrassing. I could understand if I was bent over throwing up in the streets but standing 25 feet away there were homeless people and nasty cigarette butts all over. I can honestly say I was very embarrassed and insulted by the actions at this establishment and if the approach would have been different I wouldn’t have cared. Just beware if you have any sicknesses or ailments be prepared to be insulted and embarrassed. I will not be back or advise others to go there. Find another establishment with class. There is definitely no...
Read moreSo I came to San Diego last month in search of the best food the city has to offer. I searched far and wide all over the internet, across multiple different websites and blogs, and I decided to try this place for breakfast/brunch one morning. It was supposed to be one of the best spots in town. And boy, it was.
We started with an appetizer, the Breakfast Balls (Werewolf hush puppies – country gravy – bacon crumbles). These were SO good. Crispy on the outside and it led to a nice chew on the inside, the perfect hushpuppy. Smothered in creamy, peppery gravy and perfectly crisp bacon bits. Truly an appetizer that appetized me for more.
My main squeeze, however, was the Steak Scramble (Eggs – flank steak – tomato – breakfast potatoes – house sauce – crispy onions – corn salsa – with flour tortilla). I'd eaten at a lot of restaurants in San Diego at this point, but this was my first meal that tasted like someone's momma cooked it. It was that good.
The flank steak was perfectly seasoned and wonderfully tender, a rarity for flank steak. Crisp potatoes mixed in there. Crispy onions. All this crispy stuff mixed in with the eggs. Just good home cooking. And the sauce and salsa, making everything tangy and spicy. Wow. Combine that with a soft, wonderful, flour tortilla, and boom, five stars.
I also got to sample the Pork Belly Benedict (Potato cake – pork belly – poached eggs – maple glaze – cilantro). Thicc slices of pork belly, glazed beautifully, leaving it sweet and salty. So good. On top of a latke. Poke the yolk and let it drizzle all over everything, goodness. So good.
Overall, this was an amazing breakfast for me. It really set me off on the right foot for the rest of the day. There was nothing wrong with it, everything right with it, and I...
Read moreHere’s some preamble before the review, because I know you love preamble. Brunch is a popular meal among young people that ceases to exist on weekdays. No one knows where it goes. It just goes.
Atmosphere There’s a DJ booth, which is unusual for early afternoon on a Saturday, but here we are. The DJ gracefully sails from smash hits like Will Smith’s “Gettin’ Jiggy Wit It” to Kelly Clarkson’s “Since You’ve Been Gone.” The music is a little loud indoors.
Edit: I was just alerted that I neglected to mention in this review that there are disco balls above the tables. Please disco with caution.
Food Steak scramble and biscuits and gravy are both solid options. The portions are pretty huge. Thinking about it now, is that why the place is called Werewolf? I scoped out the bar and didn’t see any actual mythical creatures, so I’m assuming it’s not a literal name. I also wasn’t refused service despite not being a werewolf myself. It’s possible that they don’t strictly enforce that though because it was daytime and we’re currently in a New Moon phase, which goes against werewolf lore. Anyway, the coffee was good too.
Coffee Yeah, let’s talk about this. The coffee is served in a big mug. There’s nothing wrong with you if you take your coffee black, and there’s nothing wrong with you if you take your coffee with too many pods of vanilla and hazelnut creamer.
Service Everyone here is very attentive, and they summon infinite energy to shout birthday sentiments to birthday people. There’s a sparkler...
