The Local PB is the premier place to watch the Bills during football season. If you have a shred of interest in sports, you will appreciate the amount of effort they put into creating an environment for their fans. They have an MC who leads the chants, a bell for touchdowns or big plays, drink and food specials as well as merchandise to support the team.
When it is nice out (which face it, in San Diego that is almost everyday) they have 2 patios to enjoy. The rooftop has more sunshine and the downstairs has more shade. Depending on your vibe, the upstairs tends to be more rowdy like a bar and the downstairs is more like a restaurant. Since the pandemic, they have blocked off their parking lot to host events outside as well as showcase local vendors.
In addition, the Pacific Beach location of The Local is incredibly generous and has donated their upstairs space to our annual karaoke charity event. Karaoke for a Cause benefits the NICU at Rady Children's hospital and by getting the venue for free we are able to donate even more money.
The Local is for sure a local's spot, but can be enjoyed by anyone! They make you feel...
Read moreI walked into this bar with friends. Waited about 15 minutes in line outside and payed a $5 cover. I can work with that. Got inside to wait 10-15 minutes to get a drink. Again nothing out of the ordinary and didn’t bother me. While I waited I noticed 2 bar tenders handing the payment terminal to customers and selecting the 22% tip option when they handed it to them. Essentially taking advantage of people drinking and trying to enjoy their atmosphere. This seemed morally wrong but I chose to look past it in hopes of a beer. I then walked up unsure between two drinks and wanted to decide based on how much a beer was. Seems pretty reasonable to me. Asked the bartender, “how much is a Pacifico?” He responded with “If you need to ask you can just leave”. The picture posted with this review is of this bartender. This seemed completely inappropriate and more work to tell me to leave and say all that then “$6””$7” whatever it may have been. I am a local and will not be returning to local pb as this was completely unprofessional and not how I would ever treat someone as someone who works in the customer...
Read moreCame here for the Grand Opening event and let me just say that this place is a big improvement over Nick's (previous place). When you walk into the joint it feels a bit familiar. The decor isn't anything innovative or anything, but it makes you feel like you've been there before even though you may have not. The staff is super nice and the waitresses are VERY easy on the eyes.
I wasn't quite sure what to order so I asked the bartender to hook up anything with Jameson in it. He suggested a Jameson and ginger ale (one of my new faves now). It was delicious and not too overbearing. Good choice bartender! I journeyed upstairs where they had a live band and a sprawling outside deck. The mood was chill and everyone was having a good time.
I got to sample the lumpia (good), wings (hella), riblets (double hella), short ribs (fatty) and the coconut shrimp (yum). The quality of the food, besides the short ribs was good. I was impressed.
If you're looking for a cool place to chill by the beach or watch the game, I definitely recommend this joint. You shouldn't be...
