The bridge is a work of art and a great photo spot. The steps walking up on both sides are well lit and wide enough to comfortably fit lots of pedestrians. As you cross the bridge from the stadium side towards the convention center side, to your right you will see the beautiful San Diego skyline, Petco, Park, and the gaslamp. To your left will be a magnificent view of the Coronado bridge, shipyards and a dozen or so train tracks converging. Almost daily and usually in the late evening there is a very long commercial train that goes by blocking the road out of the gaslamp on to Harbor Drive and leaving this bridge as the only way to cross.
The bridge is well lit and typically very clean. There are elevators on both sides. On the Petco Park side, I don’t recommend using those elevators, as they are usually very dirty and often used by people as a restroom due to a lack of public bathrooms in the area. After sunset on occasion, calling the elevator on the Petco Park side may disturb the folks inside enjoying a few beverages and each other’s company.
The elevator on the Hilton side is pristine and gives you access to all the floors of the parking structure.
If open and accessible I recommend going up to the top floor of the parking structure where you will see amazing views of the city skyline, Petco Park, and Convention Center. Be mindful however, the floors of the parking garage are set up in a confusing way.
Overall this bridge is a San Diego gem and although not without its share of controversy with funding and construction issues, San Diego Downtown would not be the...
Read moreLove this bridge, and it has a great design for the city that really provides a nice gasp when you cross over it for the first time on an early summer night, when the city is lighting up. As much as I want to give it 5 stars, the lighting on the steps at night makes me dizzy wile walking up at dusk/night when they're on. It's relatively new, and thank goodness we have it, we need more pedestrian friendly and focused train/highway crossings in this city. Try not to take the elevators, they're pretty gross usually (as expected). There's a lot of construction going on right now around the bridge that makes getting aross Harbor Dr (on Petco Oark side) a pain, depending on where you're...
Read moreGreat bridge, beautiful design, WRONG NAME. Bridges are generally named for the roadway it serves/supports. And this bridge extends Park Boulevard over the railroad track to the South Embarcadero. The bridge really has nothing to do with Harbor Drive whatsoever. Furthermore there are multiple pedestrian bridges over Harbor Drive. If the architect named it, then we all should be concerned about the structural integrity...
