In 1979 I was living as a single mother, with a little four year old boy in San Francisco. I am a confirmed Episcopalian, and wanted my son baptized now that I was divorced. We chose the Haight church, and on their Easter service at midnight, my son was baptized. His godparents were a Russian orthodox gay man and a woman who later became a pastor at a Center for Spiritual Living. It was midnight, and of course, the church was dark, and we all had candles to make our way to the font. It was such a memorable experience for me and the Holy Spirit was overwhelmingly present. Even as a man in his 40s, my son remembers it vividly. I will love that little church for the remainder of my life, and I pray that others will fill their hearts...

Every Sunday we would be at church and I was even baptized and confirmed there. All Saints has been a part of our family and mamas life for many years and my son was baptized there and 2 of my sisters married. With the recent passing of my mother. We will once again turn to the church that has supported us in so many ways to say our final farewell to mother.
