Beautiful art work, but poor customer interaction. Learned of the gallery from an Art Walk between 7-9pm on May 31, 2018. The man working there (Caucasian, 6'4", 50+ y.o., rosy coloring, brown/grey hair, slender, glasses) was rude. I was open to considering art work from there for my 1st time home, but I will just keep looking.
The rude guy first told me that I couldn't look at a painting while I was already looking at it and I had commented "beautiful"; he didn't smile or act jovial. And the worst was later, when asking my group of girlfriends if we were artists. I had kindly said that we were "novices", to which he curtly and patronizingly (rudely) said "I didn't ask you that.." then just kept going with his rant. (Something about art being from the heart, but that had nothing to do with anything relevant to me. How dare he assume that I didn't understand art just because of the singular word "novice" to denote my skill.) Since when is stating skill level an invitation to be belittled? Perhaps he needed to learn the definition of novice? It means "new, beginner, etc.". I clarified that we were "good novices" and backed away.
His energy felt toxic...for the record, when asked if I play piano, I say "beginning intermediate". A step above novice, and an accurate reply also not worthy of condescension and attitude.
If you can, purchase from a friendlier gallery, and perhaps you can find work from their...
Read moreInitially walked into the adjacent Paul Scott Gallery, big open space, lots of pieces on the wall, unique paint on canvas mediums - seemed to be art of all sorts of different things ranging from environment/nature to portraits/abstract. I liked the Ukrainian artist he mentioned, I can't recall the name of the art style but it was like blotchy short paint strokes - it was different.
I walked around the gallery, Scott the owner was there, he would comment on the pieces I was looking at which is nice that he knows the art/artists in his gallery. You would hope so! He was very friendly to talk with, he asked me if I make art, and I introduced myself as an AI artist. He seemed pretty friendly about it considering my other interaction down/across the street at another art gallery. Polar opposite interactions. I loved talking with Paul Scott, very friendly man, was very open to talking about anything with art and his writing.
You'll find some of the same artists in both of his galleries, the gallery where the map marker is was not as open. I liked the open gallery layout, felt comfortable. Lovely experience, would recommend...
Read moreThis gallery is one of the best that you'll find anywhere. First off, Paul and Spencer are skilled artists and have tremendous knowledge and ability. Second, Evynn is incredibly customer focused and even helped me with correcting a frame that I had accidentally damaged...she is a pure pleasure to work with. The curation at this gallery is really incomparable to what you'll find just about anywhere...distinctive, important, beautiful and ALIVE works of art. I am thrilled with the art I've purchased, including works from Artem Tolstukhin and Anthony Pessler. The art is incredibly reasonably priced as well. I'm also thrilled with the gift I received on my last visit of a fascinating art volume/coffee table book that is in line with my tastes. I'm glad that I'm local so that I can visit the gallery often. Do yourself a favor and stop in here...
