I recently went to a Thursday evening art walk through Old Town Scottsdale. We were just interested in hopping from gallery to gallery to beat the summer heat. Our first stop was Anticus and we were blown away by all the fantastic artwork there. However, it really does not stop there. We met Dallas and the owner, Phillip. Both could not be more welcoming. We perused the artwork on the walls, everything from hauntingly beautiful giclees to hand painted Disney cells to gorgeous one of a kind jewelry, and breathtaking sculpture. As we turned a corner in the gallery we found the PERFECT diptych for our home. We were not planning on buying anything but when you find something that speaks to you, you need to act. Phillip and Dallas were SO helpful. They showed us the paintings in various lighting conditions, told us about the artist, and gave us the gift of time to take it all in. We left to peruse other galleries, but none gave us the warm inviting feelings that Anticus gave to us. Phillip is such a passionate artist and his love for what his gallery holds comes through in everyone who works there. They make purchasing fine art joyful and you walk in a customer and you leave feeling like family. Phillip is also passionate about art as a community and even hosts a book club. I am very much looking forward to a long friendship with Phillip, Dallas, and Anticus. If you haven't been there, please please please RUN....there is so much good there! I'll be back for some...
Read moreMy partner, Jason, and I visit Arizona annually and frequently find our way to Scottsdale to admire the art galleries. On January 27, 2024, the moment I walked into Anticus, I fell in love with “Freeride” by artist, Chris Deverill. The customer service provided by Abby (Anticus Representative) was remarkable. “Freeride” was shipped to my Wisconsin residence and arrived on February 9, 2024. It was in perfect condition. Thank you!
At the time of purchase, we learned “Freeride” was #56 of #250 in the series. My father, who passed away from Lewy Bodies Dementia on May 27, 2023, was born in 1956. To find out it was #56 was a sign from my father which made “Freeride” even more sentimental to me. The donkey/mule will also serve as a remembrance of the wonderful opportunity Jason and I had on February 23, 2022 when we joined a group for an overnight mule ride to Phantom Ranch at the Grand Canyon.
Today, February 10, 2024, I reached out to Anticus and Phillip (Anticus Representative) assisted in my quest to learn more about the artist, Chris Deverill. Phillip, thank you for your kindness in providing additional information to me regarding Chris. From what I learned, Chris was a remarkable person. With his work, his...
Read moreFirst of all, I don't usually write reviews. I'm writing one for Anticus because this place struck me as so "out of the norm" for stores of its kind. Like many other reviewers, I stumbled upon the store while visiting Scottsdale and I'm so glad I did. My husband, uncle and I went in to browse and we were greeted by Cindy (I hope I have her name right) who was warm, welcoming, and could not have been more helpful. The store is inviting from the outside and, once inside, it does not disappoint. I could have sat there all day among the books, beautiful works of art, and gorgeous jewelry, but we were unfortunately short on time. On a 2nd trip back to the store on the same day, we got to meet the owner and sculptor, Phillip, who was just as kind and warm as Cindy had been to us. It's no wonder this place has so many 5 star reviews and happy customers. We made several gift purchases (all which will be treasured) but I could see from the short time I was there that each person who entered that store was treated with the same warmth and level of service whether they came in to browse, sit or make a purchase. Have since told many people about this store ...I wish Phillip and his staff and artists...
