I called sporadically over 3 weeks trying to reach the GM and could never catch him. I was handed over to Zack the fitness manager. Zack is the reason I’m not rejoining. We had a heated conversation about me joining when the gym was 24 hours and then 24 hour fitness reducing hours ,way before COVID. He told me I wouldn’t be compensated ,Zack repeatedly refused to give me his name again as I wanted to end the call ,know whom I spoke to and try the GM. I asked more that ten times for his name so we could end the call .From day one staff treated me as a substandard member, the particular reason for this circumstance was I’d purchased a two year membership from Costco for 24 hour fitness. At best staff gave me the strained indifference one would give a stray dog and at worst no validity given to any of my concerns. Traditionally a special for first time members is to impress new comers and then they stay on after. The front desk staff at Yale location, has a credo of “ members are on their own “ Can’t connect to the WiFi?,No toilet paper?,No music at all in the gym and you ask a staff member on the floor to let the front desk know,A machines been broken 3 months, At Yale location front desk attendants consciously staring at you to make you uncomfortable and leave starting more than 30 mins to close. There is absolutely no reason why Yale location should still be closing at 9pm this date of 1/25/22 . The gym is overcrowded not allowing for any form of distancing during covid and it would be nice if you could at least be open until 11pm like Northgate. In closing Zack I genuinely apologize for raising my voice, however your staffs treatment of the Costco initiation members has been dismissive for what I’m guessing is no Yale location employee logging a sales commission. Had I known how angry you guys were going to be about it I’d never have purchased it. the company as a whole doesn’t take care of simple small things to perpetuate ethical business practices, like transparent pricing, parking, restocking toilet paper, after telling the staff you’re out , turning on the radio , the months and months the studio used for classes wasn’t open for use to just stretch etc. ,friendly counter help or a closing time that’s reasonable like 11 pm or Midnight. If I do return I will understand that I’m not paying for a product or service and should be treated as a paying customer ,but that your staff is doing me a favor and they are working around the inconvenience of me being there when they just want...
Read moreAs other reviewers have pointed out, the gym can be quite dirty and it usually smells bad. The hot water is intermittent so when taking a shower it can be unpleasantly cold. And it's always way too crowded at the times I prefer to go (late morning/noon).
There were issues with my billing that were not made clear to me while signing up. In an attempt to keep it short, after my initial two year Costco membership ended (a good deal for a less than mediocre gym) I was assured verbally by the manager on duty that my rate would never go up when becoming a member paying on a monthly basis. I joined using their computer which did not stipulate anything other than the monthly rate I was aware of at the time. It turns out you have to join their website by creating an account to "then" see your contract. I was not made aware of this when I signed up. After two price increases to my membership and attempting to address this with a manager on staff (but of course to no avail) I filed a complaint through the Better Business Bureau. During the dispute process I asked to speak with the manager who assured me that my rates would never go up when I joined monthly. The person I spoke with refused my request and my BBB complaint was left unresolved.
Only a small portion of the front desk staff has any grasp of what it means to work in a customer service based industry. Kudos to them for their professionalism. But sadly, their efforts are completely negated by the majority of apathetic and just plain nasty front desk personnel, several (not all) trainers and even some of the management staff. Forget about bringing concerns or complaints to the front desk. From my experience, they can't be bothered and they don't even try to hide their irritation. I've been at this facility for years and only had two complaints. Once for someone smoking in the men's locker room and another recently for a piece of equipment that wreaked of old putrid urine. I was basically told to clean it up myself.
Isn't it great? Not only do my rates go up when I was informed verbally by a manager that they wouldn't but I also get to serve as their maid and clean up other people's bodily fluids. Thankfully by the next day the urine odor was completely gone. Maybe the employees of 24 Hour found another paying member to do their...
Read moreThe good: Fairly big gym with variety of (not so new) equipment. There are (in my opinion way too many) cardio machines, a small functional training area with uneven floor, and 6 squat racks/platforms upstairs. Downstairs, there are free weights, Hammer Strength and other machines, and a pool that I have never used.
The pricing is the cheapest I could find in Seattle, especially if you buy the Costco 2-year membership deal.
The location can be convenient.
The not so good: -This is the most overcrowded gym I have ever been to. I normally go at the “least” crowded times but there are still so many people in the gym any time I go there. Getting to use a bench is particularly difficult sometimes. And unfortunately, the benches are bolted down to the ground so you can’t move them to avoid the ceiling bright lights hit you directly in the eye as you use the bench.
-Cleanliness overall is very poor, in my opinion. Walking downstairs, to where most of the weights are, always welcomes you with a very unpleasant odor. Same thing for the locker room.
I haven’t suffered from this myself, but there are always signs posted by the management saying to be careful because there are theft problems in the locker room.
Unfortunately, for me the bad outweighs the good at this 24 Hour Fitness location. I have been to other locations on the East coast and those look like a completely different facility (5 stars deserved). I will be switching gyms as soon as I can afford a more expensive membership.
But if you don’t care that much about cleanliness and a heavily frequented gym, this could be a great place for you as this is probably the cheapest membership in Seattle that will have all or most of the equipment you...
