A very cool repurposed event space. As a few others have mentioned already, Barrister Winery is a hidden gem in downtown Spokane. I have been here many times for anything from a simple wine tasting or a summer concert, from art night to a wedding. No matter the occasion most events can be accommodated here.
When it comes to weddings however, I have a couple notes to share.
First: the bathrooms. These are not centrally located, which doesn't have to be a huge problem and one that can't really be helped anyway considering what this building was originally designed for. This issue does start to become a nuisance though when the indoor events are at maximum capacity and too much is trying to happen in the limited available space. I don't blame the venue at all - the staff is just trying to do the best they can for the client who might be insisting on a lot. I've officiated a few smaller weddings and the event space was ample. It's only when the space is packed in like canned sardines with too many people, chairs, and tables is when movement becomes congested - and access to the restrooms becomes difficult. So, just be wise if you're planning a wedding here. Just because there's a maximum occupancy posted doesn't mean you have to aim for that - and that maximum occupancy doesn't necessarily include temporary chairs, tables, and other furnishings. So, if you're looking for a place to have a large number of guests at your wedding I'd suggest scaling it back a little bit if you're really insistent on having it at this winery.
Second: There are not dedicated areas for neither the bride/bridesmaids nor the groom/groomsmen to get ready or get away at. From my experiences areas are curtained off in the basement for the wedding party to use with portable chairs and tables set up. So, just keep in mind that this is a winery and not a dedicated wedding venue.
To summarize, keep your guest list to an appropriate size and take into consideration the number of chairs, tables, etc. If you keep your expectations realistic and understand that this is a winery that can accommodate a variety of events, you shouldn't be disappointed. If you're looking for wedding specific amenities then you may want to consider another venue that meets your needs. Barrister Winery is a wonderful place for any event - even a wedding!
P.S. I forgot to mention that Barrister Winery contracts with Beacon Hill Catering. For those unfamiliar with Beacon Hill's food, you're really missing out. Incredible....
Read moreI have never been here, but my family lives in the apartment complex right next door; and, this business is absolutely inconsiderate and obnoxious. They blast loud, annoying music well into the night. They have speakers and events with the noise level so loud that you can hear the people whooping and hollering in our own apartment. We've tried calling them about it and they never answer the phones, so we've had to make several noise complaints about this business just because they're always so loud. Their live music is always so loud that we can't even put our child to bed at nights when they have performances, and it's always bad cat-in-heat screeching. I'll never be a patron here because they're inconsiderate of the fact that their business is literally right next door to two different apartment complexes, with families...
Read moreRecently I had the privilege of visiting the Barrister Winery for good wine and a great concert by Zuill Bailey (Cellist) and his colleagues. The venue is hidden along Railroad Alley off of Monroe Street. Inside the winery it is nicely decorated with beautiful artwork. I recommend the "Rogue Justice" red blend if you like reds. It was excellent. Wine tastings are held regularly. (Call in advance for information.) The ambience of the winery, the delicious wine and the outstand performance of Mr. Bailey made this a most...
