This is the third time I've been there. The first two times were good. I've experienced decent coffee, food that tastes like it is premade and shipped but whatever is trendy now is what it is. The service had been enough to make it tolerable and even enjoyable.I didn't feel rushed, I was attended to, and I got eye contact and good customer service. Out of the three times, the woman was running the front the first two. This time, my man and my daughter and I all came in and we were met with curt and frankly rude answers to our questions (avoid these questions with labels identifying the food and consistently placed menus), we said twice we wanted to dine in and got everything in paper and plastic. The food was all barely thawed, the tiny $7 biscuit was full of salt, the coffee cake was smashed and soggy, I wasn't able to ask for milk in my coffee because the counter was so full of people and we didn't get eye contact anyway. Very rude language, no eye contact, and the guy actually tapped the sign above him without looking at us when we asked about coffee flavors which we did because the menus are so disorganized and we were feeling rushed. My daughter's iced latte somehow came out before we paid which tells me it was not made there or was leftover. My drip coffee, 423, was lukewarm even though I watched them make it. I asked for oats because I wanted something less white flour and sugar and more protein but at 9am they were out of anything with eggs and I don't eat meat. I was asked "thick or thin" and I got a container so full of water that was lukewarm that the oats never cooked but became lumpy cold soup. When my man asked for a plate to eat his food on, a plate with something dark drizzled on it and dried out cucumbers was given to him. The tables were dirty. The place was loud like a bar. We didn't eat our food or drink our drinks. We wished we could've taken back the tip at least. $40 for this experience is memorable. We...

On a business trip with a group of 'hard to please' clients from San Diego and Seattle- that all LOVE good coffee. A few were gluten free and one was vegan- I was tasked with pleasing everyone. I looked up 1st ave., loved what I read, and rolled the dice with taking my clients here. Something for everyone, and not just a few lame choices that I am used to at most places- they make everything in house with clean, whole ingredients- everything was absolutely delicious and two of my clients went back the next day to purchase coffee and baked goods to take back to Seattle and San Diego.
I'm honestly surprised as I scrolled down and read a few other reviews.. but then again, I also feel if you have an adverse experience at any establishment, you should speak to a manager or owner, and give them the feedback. Posting negative comments lacks integrity.
Personal note- I consider coffee food, and I damn well expect artisan coffee houses to respect sourcing, and staff to truly understand what they are serving -along with the taste profile. Their commitment to 'clean' coffee and 'ethical' sourcing is rare and absolutely commendable!!
I'm friggen' delighted with everything and admittedly geeking out, knowing on each business trip to Spokane, I have this gem of a coffee house to look forward too! If your VEGAN or GF, they've got you covered with donuts, gluten free breakfast hand pie, Keto cranberry tart (with sugar free whole organic fat whip), endless healthy baked goods and grab and go snacks...COME ON!!!!

Read moreVery disappointed. My fiancé asked for a matcha with almond milk but instead got "minor figures oat milk" which is not certified gluten-free. She has celiac disease and gluten makes her very ill, which is why almond milk was requested and when we asked he did not offer to fix it and said the oat milk is gluten-free, which a quick google search says otherwise.
Also, it gets worse. When we walked in, he was trying to make other orders, so I said "we have a big order so I'll wait" and his response was a gesture to his head to indicate he could do it. So I started simple with two nitro-palmer's and he replied with "what cream or milk?" I was confused and asked "in a Palmer?" And he said "I thought I meant cold brew." So again I tried to wait and give him a chance to be less busy but he insisted he could get it, and walked over to the register. Yet I did not get nitro lemonade in either of them when we received them.
We then proceeded with our order hoping that maybe it was just a fluke about the lemonades and I honestly didn't care that much, and that's when the matcha got the wrong milk. The matcha was also supposed to be an iced drink but came with no ice and was instead just shaken with it, making it more of a " lukewarm" drink.
We got 5 drinks and a donut, the donut was also almost forgotten. For spending nearly $40 I'd say I'm pretty disappointed that half of them were incorrect and now we have to wait and see if someone will become ill because of this. I hope they can get more than one worker to fill orders as I think this would help prevent future problems...
