I usually don’t do reviews but because of my experience with Steamboat Springs Powder Cats I felt the need to let everyone know.
We are currently booking our trip to steamboat springs this winter and will NOT be using Steamboat Powdercat.
Me and my family have been visiting Steamboat Springs for the last 8 winters. Me and my two boys have always wanted to try Cat Skiing and thought 2023 would be our year to do it.
Our friends we were staying with had a snow mobile that they use to go skiing on buffalo pass. They said they would take us up and show us around before we booked out trip with the powder cats. They told us that we could rent a snow mobile in Steamboat at an outfitter. Lucky us they had some snow mobiles available that week. Upon arriving in the parking lot with our snow mobiles in tow Steamboat Powder Cats employees could not have been any more rude to us. Their entitlement was something you would expect from a local surfer in Hawaii. This was our first encounter with them. We didn’t let that ruin our day.
We headed up the mountain and skied about 6 runs before lunch. We met up with a few locals that were also “sled skiing” as they called it. We were stopped for lunch on the side of the cat track at the top of one of the ski runs. (Completely out of the way) Here comes the entitled Steamboat Powder cats in their big red machine. At first sight the driver signals to us with his arms to move. They unloaded and skied away. Before the driver left he started yelling at us and telling us we need to respect their space. We were there first and we were completely out of the way. Also note that this is National Forest and public land and they have the entitlement to call it “their space”
One of the locals Ryan we met up with told us that this is the MO of steamboat powder cats and they have always acted this way. Little did they know we were potential future customers. After these interactions there is no way I will support or give my business to them.
Our final interaction was on the cat track as we were going down to the car. They were in the middle of the trail riding towards us. When they saw us they stopped and again signaled for us to move out of their way. (there was plenty of room for him to move over and let us pass. He would not move. He proceed to sit in his snow cat while mean mugging us and watching us struggle to turn around the snow mobile.
It seems as if these guys will only show you respect if you are a paying customer.. If you are anything other than a paying customer they will treat you like trash. Do yourself a favor and rent a snow mobile for a fraction of the cost. You will get to ski more and not have to deal with the their rude employees. The three locals we met up on the mountain were super friendly and helpful. we ended up skiing with them the whole day.
To the steamboat powder cats employees “Treat people the way you would want to be...
Read moreThe greatest skiing experience you will ever have. We had the opportunity to go in late December and it was absolutely awesome. Matt House, Taylor, and Caroline were absolutely awesome guides, very professional, kind, and of course great skiers. Our photographer, Oscar, was also very nice. He took some fantastic photos for us and was great to talk to in the cat. We were able to get 14 runs in which was great. The accommodations were also great. We were picked up at our hotel and brought to their office, then we were immediately met with great service from many different employees. We were provided with very nice armada skis and poles and then shown to a nice selection of food and drinks to prepare for our day. Our lunch was absolutely fantastic, and a great energy boost for the rest of the day. The snowcat was also very nice inside. Overall, extremely accommodating, kind, and professional. Hoping to go...
Read moreI booked a ride with Luc S…. Solid guide. He was patient (I was an hour late …typical Masshole), explained improvement techniques (without lecturing), and was very in-tuned to my conditioning (I’m 50+ yr old man-boy, but I’m also half-a-gimp after a stroke a few years back).
He also took care of my rental setup saving us a bunch of time….. put me on $6k Yeti which was cathartic.
I was hoping to do a solid 4 hours of riding but cramped up like a rookie after 3 hours. Luc still found some suitable flows to make sure I had fun.
Getting old sucks… but having a guide who’s in tune with your situation and conditioning made the day...
